I still have nightmares about this guy's class. It will take some doing to beat this guy as the worst teacher in existence. He could talk for an entire class about practically nothing. He was also, sadly, a mean and unlikeable person when you go to his office hours. His advice to me was to drop out of the major.

Terrible!!! Completely not willing to help. Tests are rediculous... class averages were in the 50's. The lectures are irrelevant and mandatory. I had to drop and wait a year unitl someone else was teaching the course. Avoid at all costs!!!!!!!

Avoid him at all costs. His exams are impossible and usually cover material which was covered in lecture, but understood by none. The final this year consisted of material from the beginning (5% from the end) despite telling us otherwise. The exam also had questions from CSE260 (now 360). If you like a low GPA, schedule him.

Listen Freshmen, I am a senior, I had goldstein freshman year also... DO NOT TAKE HIM. First off, his tests are not based off the lecture and he tries to screw over the students. His tests are multiple choice, however they will be like "Which of these did I say in class: A-Z". If you value your GPA and life, do not take him as is a complete IDIOT.

Jonathan Goldstine is the worst teacher I've ever had, and yet for some reason the CSE department feels the need to keep him on. He doesn't have one thing going for him. He's a terrible teacher and a complete jerk. DO NOT take a class with this man! You'd be better off learning discrete math from a mute four year old.

Never mistake his condescension for niceness. To say he has the teaching ability of a brick would be an insult to bricks everywhere. He teaches material after the homework for it is due, and nothing he teaches is EVER useful. Avoid at all costs. ALL.

avoid at all cost, he talks the entire class about absolutely nothing. it takes him 2 classes to go over one example that should only take 10-15 min. he tries to teach the stuff you need to know after the homework is due, and you have to rely on the book for everything, and the book is just as bad as he is.

This guy is rock bottom. He is the worst teacher I've ever had, college or otherwise. His only saving grace is that he looks like Larry David. He spent an entire class telling us that almost half of us had under a 50% instead of realizing that it might be his fault and trying to teach for once. AVOID IF POSSIBLE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

The CSE department is seriously in need of reconsidering their choice in faculty. This man has extremely weak communication skills, horrible lecture design, and an overall poor teaching strategy. I highly recommend that you do any and all things to keep yourself out of this man's class!

Terrible. You are tested on material that he never even covers in class. His lectures are way drawn out. He never says anything to actually teach you the material. The whole class he spends on one example, which will be easier than the example on the exam/quiz. I will never take another class with him. Worst professor I've had in seven semesters.

Proof: Suppose Goldstine is an integer a != 0. Show that Goldstine is the worst professor of all time. Using sqrt(2) isnt rational, Goldstine should be fired for never saying anything in any of his lectures. QED.

Goldstine was by far the worst teacher I've ever had. Although an A is slightly possible, it's extremely difficult to do well. It is nearly impossible to pay attention to him during lecture, homework takes upwards of 4 hours every week, and the exams are horrible. Avoid at all costs! (Unless you want your life to be miserable)

This Teacher is terrible and you should avoid taking this or any other class with him at all costs. He is very willing to help you out side of class, but that does little good cause all he does is confuse the situation. His tests are seriously hard too.

As a student who is used to working for good grades and knows that getting the grade takes work, this class kills. To do well in the class you have to take perfect class notes, know every homework problem perfectly, and read every page in the book. On top of that you need to be a natural genius and thus have no life. In short, WORST TEACHER EVER.

Do not take this class with him. He is probably the worst professor i've ever had. It take him forever to explain something in class, goes on rambling about other things, and is not very helpful. His exams are also insanely hard. Take this class with another professor.

Worst professor I have ever had. You will have to learn exclusively from the textbook, and his exams are extremely hard. Many questions were worded "as we did in class", so you have to sift through the perpetual boredom of his class to stand a chance. On a bright note, he curved the exam grades a lot (my exam avg was a 58 and still managed a B-)

I have had the unpleasant experience of having CSE 465 with prof Goldstine. He was the absolute worst professor I had in my whole educational experience at Penn State. Not only is he not helpful, he goes out of his way to not teach anything during class. Avoid at all costs. What a pathetic little weasel.
