HW assignments due 1-2x a week. 3 Tests & a final. As long as you show up to class and study a little you will do fine. She is very straightforward as to what will be on the test.

She is the sweetest!! Super easy class, she really wants you to succeed. There are 4 10 question tests that are identical to the study guides, 12 take home quizzes, optional homework, and you don't have to take the final if your test average is 95% or higher. If you have 95% or higher in attendance she gives you points back on your lowest test!

Professor Newell is the best professor I had this semester! She is so genuine and really cares about her students success. She relates her lectures to real life scenarios and she tells lots of fun stories. She is always willing to help outside of class and offer life/college advice. I would highly recommend professor Newell to any student.

Easy class. The test reviews are exactly like the tests. The tests are 10 questions. Gives extra credit if your attendance is high. If you have a 95% or above test average you do not have to take the final. Quizzes are all take home and can be done with other people. Homework is optional and is not graded.

Great teacher! If you have the option to take her, definitely do! She makes it her goal for everyone in the class to do well, so she explains concepts extremely clearly, gives several take-home quizzes to boost your grade, and is lenient with her grading on tests too! Definitely an awesome teacher!

Homework isn't required, quizzes are take-home, and tests are very similar to the reviews she gives. Go to her office hours if you're having any trouble. She is very helpful.

One of the best professors at SMU. The only reason I got a C was because I had awful attendance. If you have a 94% average at the end of the semester she does not make you take the final and a 94 is so easy to get if you just show up. All homework answers are posted and she gives reviews for test that are exactly the same as the test. TAKE HER!!!!!

I failed calc TWICE before taking her summer class, then made a B! She breaks down the material into easily digestible material and focuses on the actual math instead of abstract theories. Take-home quizzes that shell help you on during or after class, or during office hours. Tests are straight-forward, and she tells you exactly what to expect.

Hilarious, warm, caring! Lovely person, super helpful in office hours (she tells wonderful stories) but that being said her lectures were too fast to follow so A TON of people had tutors, bc you cant learn a lot during the lecture. If you study tests arent bad. She says final is meant to boost grade but really it just kinda stays the same.

Professor Newell presents as a kindly Texan grandmother who just happens to be a math whiz. Expect 14 take-home quizzes (4 of which she drops), 4 exams, and 1 comprehensive final. Homework is available, but is not part of your grade. A few points will be added back to your lowest exam if you do well on the final and your attendance is above 90%.

Easiest math class at SMU, and sweetest professor who wants everyone to get a good grade. 10 quizzes throughout the semester that are all done in groups, 4 tests that are only about 10 questions each and word for word the study guide. All homework answers are posted online. Final is open book/notes, but 94% and above are exempt from the final.

TAKE NEWELL! She brings her sweet dog to class, her lectures are clear, the review is almost the same as the test, she tells you what each question on the test will be the class before (so dont skip it), and she doesnt make you take the final if you have a 95 avg. Take it from someone who always got Bs in math and is leaving with a high A.

Prof Newell is the BEST! She's such a sweet lady. The first day of class she makes everything extremely clear for what the semester will hold. Quizzes are take home and you can drop 4. She'll add extra points to the lowest test grade for good attendance. Really helpful in office hours if concepts are confusing.

Professor Newell has very respectable expectations of her students. She enters class every day and begins lecture whether her students are ready or not! However, she is very helpful outside of class and there are no surprises on the exams. If you do the quizzes and take good notes, you will get an A.

If you have a chance to take professor Newell for Calculus, definitely take her. I had her for Business Precalculus and Business Calculus. She's very clear with her grading criteria, gives awesome notes and examples so you know what to expect, is super helpful during her office hours, and is an all around great person and teacher!

My view may be slightly tainted because of my severe math aversion. Class moves really fast so I never really knew what was going on. Time moved really slowly. She obviously is a master in what she teaches. I just wish her office hours didn't conflict with my other classes. She is very helpful the time i could make it
