Comment:
Kulick isn't my favorite prof. She's not bad, but her lecture style is terribly boring and she can be a very tough grader if you don't write exactly what she wants you to. The class had the potential to be very interesting, and the final project was fun, but it was mainly a bore.

Course is made up of two non-cumulative exams, a short paper, an oral presentation, a foreign language teaching demonstration, and a final. Don't get the textbook. I opened it once and I didn't even need to do that. Her lectures are fairly interesting. Pay attention to the student presentations since they'll be on the exam

Professor Kulick is a gem! The class was relatively easy. I went into it thinking I had a good French accent, but by the end I had improved noticeably. Take this class if you're interested in French, linguistics, and/or improving your French accent.

Lots of helpful short HW assignments and in-class practice. Go to office hours if you even have the slightest bit of difficulty understanding a topic and she'll clear things up quickly. A good choice for one of your first French classes after high school; upperclassmen may find it a bit repetitive/easy. I definitely saw my pronunciation improve.

This class was super interesting and she is obviously passionate about the study of language. The class was early and could sometimes feel long, but I learned a lot about myself and language theory. The textbook isn't worth buying.

Phonetics & Diction is a very interesting class. She genuinely cares for all of her students, both those who are struggling and those who are succeeding. That being said, go to office hours! Expect short homework assignments for each class that take 0.5 hr. I truly saw progress in my spoken French after a semester thanks to Professor Kulick.

Comment:
read the ratings for Kulick here and did not believe them- BELIEVE THEM. This class was needlessly work-intensive, and if you don't memorize every detail of student presentations you suffer. She presents material that largely consists of vague concepts then asks for extremely specific answers. Kulick is unnecessarily nit-picky, it's a rough class.

Kulick is a fabulous professor for Foreign Language Acquisition and Teaching English Overseas. She may have long lectures, but her vast knowledge on the subject is useful and undeniable. Her activities are thought-provoking and beneficial, especially for anyone considering teaching English as a foreign or second language.

So disappointing. Sure, she's a nice lady, but a completely ineffective teacher in this course. Class time was spent like we were in 5th grade going over homework problems, which she didn't even always correct, then repeating the same sound over and over. No useful personal feedback. I actually lost language skills. And grading was a total grab-bag

Stylistics and Translation is an easy A for anyone who is remotely interested in French. Six 2-page translations for the whole semester, two tests and a final, assigns homework but she doesn't check it. Take this class!!!

Very nice professor, always ready to help. Not very hard and will likely help you out if she sees you're putting in effort. For 305, she allows you to write on relatively interesting stuff, so the essays aren't a major chore. I highly recommend!

She's very friendly and passionate, but a lot of the class is just discussions about personal experiences. Although this is fun, sometimes I wondered what I was learning. The textbook was, unfortunately, really boring.

Most boring class I've ever taken. After the midterm it was better since we got to teach; listening to her lecture is an absolute waste of time. She just says the same thing over and over again, but rephrases, as if she were teaching French. But this is ENGLISH and we're all native speakers. I'd say don't go to class but it will hurt your grade.

Kulick is a really nice and friendly. However, she is WAY too perky at the ungodly hour of 8am and frequently greets the class with a beaming smile and asking us if we got a good night's sleep. We all just stare at her in return. Or giggle if we want to get a good participation grade, which is a huge part of your grade.

Such a nice lady. Very understanding and helpful. Class is pretty laid-back with a reasonable amount of work and fair grading. Talking to her one-on-one about projects is really helpful, although the notes she draws on your paper are often nothing but scribble.

A great class. She is very helpful and, as everyone else has mentioned she is reasonable and fair when it comes to grading. The class really helps prepare you for the exams and particpation is 15-20% of your grade, so you really have to go. The worst thing that can be said is that she schedules all her classes for 8am!

I hate the language requirement, but she made it really easy. She's a really nice woman and very eager to help. GO TO CLASS!! I had it at 8, so I hardly ever made it, which made it a lot harder than it had to be. The book is really helpful too, so read the book, show up, and it should be a snap.
