She is very knowledgeable and it is up to the students to really take advantage of the expertise and wisdom she offers. She does have a personality and sometimes people can take it personally but she always comes from a place of caring and wanting to challenge students and their pre-conceptions. Her courses have really had an impact on me.

I don't even know if there are enough words to describe the life changing experience this class was for me. I have never in my entire Grinnell career been challenged to become a better scholar until I met her. Katya will make you work but you will ultimately reap the benefits from what you sow. It is about the PROCESS rather than the final grade.

Katya is one of the best professors I've had at Grinnell but let me tell you, just because you do all the work does not mean you will get an A. You NEED to not only attend all classes but you must participate and put in effort. I was burnt out on her at the end but the personal gains were well worth the many hours and pages of journal writing.

Vaguest guidelines ever. No grades. No help during office hours. Rarely answered emails. Nothing to say about subject. Huge snob. The good part: If you were one of her favourites, you didn't have to turn anything in on time or show up to class for an A. Conclusion: there are a lot of good profs at Grinnell, so don't waste your time with Katya.

What a nightmare. Elitist and crazy. She's so wrapped up in individualism and agency that she's blind to the influence of social forces/institutions. This neoliberal is a very disappointing addition to the Grinnell faculty.

As an Anthro major, I took a seminar with Katya my last year at Grinnell. At the time, I found the experience excruciating--the reading load was huge, and she intimidated me. Taking her class prepared me well for grad school, and now I actually wish I had taken more classes with her. She taught me to think critically, for which I am grateful!

Katya is one of the most demanding professors in the school. Her tutorial is based on her published works, so there is rarely any chance for difference of opinion. He jumps on you for any mistakes you make in writing or speech. In short, you will definitely learn, but it will hurt and you will only learn what she decides to teach you.

Katya Gibel Azoulay's classes were by far the most important I ever took at Grinnell. Dedicated, serious and humble students who are interested in learning to think critically and objectively on topics related to race, class, gender and culture will find that Katya's classes can change their lives.

At first I thought she sucked, but then I realized it was me and not her. She challenges you in areas that are not the most comfortable for you. Everyone should take at least one of her classes before graduating; if you don't, you're missing out. She teaches you to think critically, not only about the subjects she teaches, but about everything.

Not just the best prof here, but the smartest woman I ever met! She's tough, but you'll learn more in her class than any other. She UNLOCKED MY MIND--Since graduating Grinnell, I realize she is a REAL ASSET to the college. To those who gave her a poor rating, I understand. I had to take a couple classes with her before I got just how good she was.

The single most brilliant professor I took at Grinnell. Have you read her exchanges with Anthony Appiah? She could teach most anywhere in this country or otherwise. A real asset.
