KVA is an amazing professor - she's super engaging and understanding but she also expects a lot from you, and challenges you to think deeper and make broad connections in her classes. One of my favorite classes of all time at Kenyon was with her: the Women in Renaissance and Baroque Art Seminar. Definitely take it if you're an art history major.

KVA is a good professor but not the best one to have for Survey of Art History II. Her focus is on High Renaissance and Baroque so we spend a couple of months on that; that leaves very little time for the last 400 years of material, and so you don't get a great background there. That said, her lectures are absolutely wonderful. She loves her work.

I love KVA. She is an inspirational woman, both as an academic and as a person. She is brilliant and aware, willing to hear what students have to say even if tangential, and so open and supportive in office hours. I was there every other week and she was always happy to see me and help. Couldn't ask for better.

I was in her Survey Part II class and I enjoyed some parts but the majority of my time was spent trying to cram a massive number of works that we barely discussed before the exams. I've heard good things about her upperlevel classes, but her intro is disorganized and only teaches you temporary recall. Also took 3 months to grade a 2 pg paper!!

I hear that KVA is great for upper level classes, but I was disappointed with her Survey II course. She focused heavily on the Renaissance and Baroque (her specialties), after which she scrambled to cover as much post-17th-century art history as possible. The end of the class was incredibly rushed and we never even made it past 1900.

Undoutedly the best Art History teacher I have ever had. She is kind, caring and helpful. Her lectures are precise, her diction and clarity impeccable. If you meet with her in office hours, you will be flabbergasted by her sheer knowledge, and her genuine love of her students.Meeting with her is one of the best ways to improve your writing. Amazing

Prof. Van Ausdall is everything a professor should be -- caring, intelligent, demanding, and interesting. You can tell she really cares about her subject and she does an amazing job of sharing her passion with her students. If you take good notes in class, you'll do well. Easily one of the best professors I've ever had.
