Comment:

Dr. Samuels explained what she expected us to learn very clearly and planned out our lectures and pre-readings in a very organized manner. Dr. Samuels is very passionate about biology and will answer all questions students may have, even asking other researchers for opinions when the question isnt in her area of expertise. Exam were very fair.

Comment:

Dr. Samuels was an awesome prof! It's clear that she really cares about her students and she tries to make cell biology fun and relatable. She is very clear about her expectations and has great clicker questions to help prepare you for exams. She also has some funny analogies to help you understand difficult topics.

As a more recent rating, Dr. Samuels was a great prof for BIOL 112, she made things very clear and she taught well overall. The course was constructed very well, which made it MUCH easier to learn (props to profs). Tip if you're taking biol 112: study from the slides- use the tb to get the "knowledge", but the slides and QQ are very helpful.

She was very unclear throughout all the lectures. She was unprepared, had unclear clicker questions, unclear slides. She didn't follow the slides in any sort of order that made sense. She was clearly more interested in her own research rather than being a professor.

Although nice, she is very unclear, going off on random tangents and is unable to articulate her thoughts well. Just use the learning objectives to study and you'll be fine. Don't bother buying the textbook.

She's a really good teacher! She's fun to listen to, she has pretty good notes, and I found her clicker Qs useful. For some reason nobody really used the textbook, but I thought it was useful if you want a really good grade. Take her class, you won't regret it :)

She is really nice!!!!! I love how approachable she is, as well as how crystal clear about what you need to know. She has the most structured notes I have gotten this far from UBC. No need to buy the book or even look at the units online. Her notes are sufficient! OH, and she tends to give the answers to iclickers by accident a lot:P

Great Professor. The good thing about her is that besides having clear notes and mentioning all you need to know she does workshop problems in class which helps to do the midterms and finals. excellent prof. DEFINITELY take her section if you can. As far as midterm goes, her sections got the highest marks. I'm guessing it's because she is a good prof. Tells you EXACTLY what you need to know. Very funny too. Won't fall asleep!

I took this course two years ago, but remember Dr. Samuels fondly. I think she has the most structured notes of any prof I've had in my university years, and her practice questions/quizzes were great. I remember her exams as being quite difficult, but they were comparable with the other section in terms of marks. In all, a very talented teacher.
