Comment:
I really liked Chilukuri's nutrition class, but here are pros and cons. Pros: Cares about students, ties material to real world diseases, and engages students with questions during lecture. Con: Some details gone over in lecture aren't in the book, so if you didn't understand her explanation in lecture, you might need to ask her after class.

The course itself is very time consuming. Weekly quizzes, 2 or 3 lab reports, a midterm, and a final. She doesn't podcast, so good luck if you miss the 8am class. Final research paper is an independent 10+ page project; don't expect much help. Competency tests are complete bs, TA's will grade you on how "proficient" you are at lab techniques.

I liked her a lot, she made lectures clear and interesting, and tests were SO doable, but she did say her tests aren't as hard as they were once before, planning on TAing for and the information is fun, its based a lot on diseases from deficiencies. Def a doable class!

Do not take her for nutrition. She wrote her slides right before class and then was frequently having to change them because they were filled with errors-same goes for her quizzes. It made the material extremely confusing for a relatively easy class. The exams had questions on things she only mentioned once and weren't even in her slides.

Dr.C is AWESOME! She cares about her students and makes sure everyone understands the theory behind experiments. Although the course itself is a lot of work (readings, quizzes, midterms, papers, homework, clicker questions, competency tests), the end result and feeling of accomplishment is rewarding. I highly recommend taking a class with her!

She is very willing to help out, especially if you have done poor on midterms like I have. She dedicates a lot of her time to extra lectures during lab downtime to help the students out. Her midterms are all fair game, and the labs are very fun and interesting! Lecture is iClicker-based, and is highly recommended! Note I'm a Chem major.

Doctor Chilakuri (or more commonly known as Doc. Chill) is by far my favorite professor at UCSD. She's smart, funny, and makes the material (which for BIMM 121 isn't itty bitty) understandable. She even takes the time out of her personal life to hold 5 x 1.5 hour long review session. There are two essays which aren't that bad and the labs are fun.

Extremely selfish. Does not take into count that a majority of her students if all are taking other bio classes and not just hers. Literally gave a midterm the Fri. before finals week and had the 15+ research paper due that following Mon. She lies and says you have only 1 research paper. Try 3(the other two exclude materials/abstract).

I have to admit, this was the BEST bio course I ever took at UCSD. Great professor and the material was super interesting. It definitely was not easy, but if you put in the time and effort to understand the concepts, you will get an A like I did. Attend her review sessions and go to lecture (a must!). I highly recommend this course with Chilukuri!

One of the best professor I've ever met in UCSD! She takes her own time holding several review sections before the midterms, and she want the student to learn. She's always in lab, helping students, and she graded midterms herself. Extremely nice personality, very kind. Exams not easy, you have to work hard to get good grade. But very recommended!

Easy A - If you study. Lecture heavy, use book for diagrams and definitions. I got a B+, but I could've studied a little more.

This class is really interesting! Everything that is thought relates to everyday life and the exams ARE NOT tricky. Very straight forward as long as you go to class and literally write down everything she says. If you do that, you got yourself an A.

The nutrition class is super hard! The questions are super tricky and the exams are like 20 pages long. You think the material is easy at first then BAM the test are super hard! Makes metabolic seem like recess..

Yes, this class has a lot of materials to memorize but they are straight-forward. Yes, the exams are long but all you have to do is regurgitate the stuff explained in class. Nothing tricky; nothing that makes you go ?WTF is she asking?? If you cannot memorize and regurgitate simple information, you should've dropped out of the biology major.

I think Prof. Chilukuri is a great professor, she explains everything very well just make sure you write down everything she says. Also, her exams are application based so you have to really understand the material before exams.

She rambles on forever about the topics in discussion. I find reading the book more interesting than listening to her in lecture. For her test you basically have to memorize everything she says and repeat this verbatim on the tests. If you miss one small detail you'll get marked down. Take someone else.

I thought she was a good professor and her tests were fair, although long. Interesting and easy to understand class. Just because it is nutrition doesn't mean it is suppose to be easy, it is an UD bio course. I got the best grade in this class out of all my classes at UCSD.
