Laura is one of the best profs I had at UBC - super helpful and fun. Because of the variety of assignments, there's always a chance to do well if papers aren't your thing. She really cares for her students and lectures are always structured and interesting with a good level of participation expected. Put effort into the class and you'll do well.

Inspiring, approachable, knowledgable, open-minded. Speak up, she really encourages participation. I was dreading Canadian Literature but Dr. Moss completely turned the subject matter around for me. She made it engaging and interesting with lots of lively class discussion and great readings. GO TO OFFICE HOURS. 10/10 would recommend.

She is a really great person. Super funny and very approachable. However, I had qualms about her teaching style -- I am quite a visual learner and there was no support there whatsoever, it's almost all oral and goes at a really fast pace, so take that into consideration. There were also classes where it's all discussion and Q&A. Speak up.

Best English prof I've ever had. Laura knows SO much about Canadian lit, and introduced me to amazing contemporary authors that I'll continue to read. She has the perfect balance of discussion and information in her lectures; she's a fair marker, and a genuine human being. I have so much respect for her, and really learned. 100% would take again.

Walked in with zero interest in and knowledge of Canadian literature. Walked out learning a lot and with a desire to read more Canadian literature. Extremely helpful during office hours.

She is awesome! To sum this class up, she gave us 4 books to read over the semester and lectures are all about the books and analyzing them. i literally only read 2 of the books all semester and still ended up with a good grade. GO TO CLASS, everything she says in class is all you need for the exam, midterm, and essays you write.

taking a class with and knowing this woman is a privilege. in the english faculty, profs who are both academics and accessible human beings are a rarity. laura is always willing and even eager to support students with practical and relevant advice. she is clear about expectations, has high standards for discussion, and fair evaluations.

Dr Moss was one of the best profs I have had a UBC. She was approachable and enthusiastic and also very knowledgeable. The readings were different and incorporated not only intersting historical context but also creative assignments. Rather than dragging the class down with academia Dr Moss lifted it up witha pure love for the subject. Amazing.

Okay, so I only have a few problems with this class. Instead of covering contemporary CDN works, we were stuck reading the ever-boring Moodie and Campbell Scott. She also talked too fast, making some points ethereal. Nevertheless, Dr. Moss was really helpful, approachable, and nice when I talked her about my term paper and becoming a better writer.

Comment:
Dr. Moss is an intelligent, kind, and approachable prof. She speaks a little bit fast during lecture and could use a more structured approach in her classes. The course content is fairly heavy, covering many topics and authors. I felt there was too much emphasis on historical contexts, and not enough on the literature itself though.

Professor Moss needs to have more confidence in her self, and could probably benefit from the use of slides or outlines, or some sort of material to structure her lectures because they were all over the place. I wasn't a fan. I also hated reading settler accounts for a month when we could have been doing something like Atwood, or VanCamp.

As a person she was vivid, clear and very professional. I am only a little disappointed that she let our T.A mark our final term papers that counted for the most of our mark. Otherwise, i loved her honesty as a teacher and the overall energy of her class is very positive.
