His seminars are LONG and BORING. He likes to think that he is very open-minded, but if he doesn't agree with what you are saying he shoots you down. He seems to know a lot, but the truth is that his knowledge is quite superficial. If you don’t want to die of boredom, avoid his class!

A very demanding prof, keeps you on your toes, but defiantly knows his stuff, and I got a lot out of his classes. Heard he retired, I wish him the best.

Larry frightens many of his students, but he's really quite harmless. His music history class requires a deep understanding of how musicians listen to music as a prerequisite. This class was about music, NOT history. I thought Larry does a good job with his history classes, but many of the students who take them are not ready for the content.

Sometimes he over-estimates his understanding of disciplines not native to him, but he is definitely well-read and well-rounded. He is an adept lecturer and though his committment to class discussion is sincere, he often forgets it. Much to his credit, in my opinion.

I took 4 semesters of music theory with Larry. His classes were a lot of work, and I didn't always enjoy it, but I learned a lot. Now that I've transfered and have different music professors, I wish I could have Larry back again.

Larry can be very conceited, but he knows his stuff. I mean, I fought with him a lot because I didn't really like his style, but in terms of knowledge and smarts, he's got them both.

Larry is clear and helpful in teaching Music Theory. His classes are as hard or as easy as you want them to be; you can get an A/A- with minimal work, but you can also learn as much as you want to if you seek out the challenges and ask for help.
