Laid back guy, almost too laid back. Gives a lot of quizzes and tests and takes FOREVER to hand them back. He was a nice guy overall and I didn't hate the class by any means, but having to wait weeks to get tests and quizzes back really bothered me. Put some effort into the class and you'll get a decent grade.

Dr. Champney is a great professor. His tests are hard if you do not read the book. The tests are all identification (which he throws in random stuff from the chapter), short answer, and essay. If you take notes and read the book you can get an A. Also, take advantage of the extra credit.

very boring, every test there is atleast 2-3 questions randomly chosen from the book, tiny little details that no one would remember. a bit picky on essays too. you can get a B with minimal effort as long as you read the book a few times

I used to like him, but I took him for Environmental Law and Regulations and it completely changed my outlook on him. His test questions are ridiculously vague and he's overall a horrible lecturer. I would say avoid, but the Poli Sci department here doesn't have many options.

An easy professor if you listen during class. Is very picky with grading essays. Exams he is somewhat lenient. Liberal, but will listen to your opinion. Class is very laid back. He will often bring in outside materials (articles, movies, websites) that are relevant. Great for polisci... for research methods I hated him, but I know hes a great guy.

liberal, but i don't hold it against him : ) king of the air quotes (& he uses the WHOLE hand); don't have to think too much (REALLY easy compared to how challenging parente is); nice guy; fair grader; take good notes & you'll be fine; b/c of his class, i don't have to fail my math credit!

His short answer test questions can make or break you. Somehow worked people like Walter Goeppinger (National Corn Growers Association founder) and Joey Skaggs (perpitrator of media hoaxes) into American Government class. I liked him though.

He is one of my favorite professors, I've had him 3 times. Sometimes distant and spacy, but brilliant, laid back and interesting. Uses air quotes often. Can be picky on papers, and his tests are fine if you study, but impossible if you don't. Great guy.

The best thing about Champney's class is the relaxed atmosphere. Champney knows his material well especially in public policy. If you ask him something he doesnt know he will research it for you. Tests are not hard but one must study for them to do well

Really funny guy and a fair grader. His tests aren't bad, 99% of the questions come from the notes. He often uses air quotes when he talks around words that don't need them, but it's entertaining.

Comment:

Champney is very intelligent and a great teacher. Lots of grade opportunities he grades fairly. Use the cd to help on the quizes, and the tests mostly come from lectures so dont miss class. Highly reccommended.
