I love love love Prof. Bernstein. Hands down, the best professor I have had yet. She is understanding of the ammount of work students have and changed nearly all of our paper due dates to help my class out. She always comments she would rather give us more time and the paper be well written than not. She is WONDERFUL! Helpful, insightful, and smart

Prof. Bernstein knows a wealth of information. She can be a little intimidating, especially if you do poorly on a paper. However, she is willing to help you and let you rewrite. She chooses excellent books that will keep you interested even if she cannot.

Alright all of you who say that she is too demanding/too analytical are a bunch of no talent slackers who expect Lit to be easy just 'cuz its Lit. ProfBernstein is like a character from a novel (not Baba Yaga, though): she wears tennis shoes in class and writes articles on epistolary correspondences. She's a great professor, appreciate her.

freshmen seminar... lots of reading - way to expectant that we could read all of it, spent too much time analyzing too little of the stories, boring class discussions, tough grader (not sure she gives As - at least she doesnt like to), nice and more helpful one on one

Not for the faint of heart. She's a battleaxe and can tear you to shreds if she feels like it. However, that said, she is an EXCELLENT teacher. I really feel that this is the most interesting class I've taken - I would say it changed my outlook on life.

Honestly, this MSS was boring. It always seemd as though she was having a conversation with herself instead of with the students. She would spend one hour interpreting one line in a narrative. She is very vague, very uninteresting. The paper assignments were ridiculous!!! I think that this is a last resort type of class.

Dont take this course unless you want to be confused out of your mind for 80 minutes. The books were good, but class dicussion was useless. She is ambiguous with her assignments, and is an extremely diffcult grader. There are other more interesting MSS courses. Stay away from this one.

This was a first year seminar and most of the people in the course didn't want to be there. I've heard that this was her worst class ever and even she hated it, but she didn't try very hard to get students to participate. Outside of this class, I've heard she's good.

Flat out best literature teacher here, along with Barnard. Excellent insight, personality, and accent. She's the reason I go to classes.
