I looked forward to going to lectures. Examples were relevant, testing was fair, assignments were tricky. I feel like I learned from her decently well.

Lois is a great professor. Her lectures were informative and easy to understand. She tries to prevent monotony by having guest speakers and videos. She's always willing to help students out during her office hours. The assignments can be difficult, but that's what we're here for. Her class is a great gateway into J-school.

Nice enough lady, but MAN OH MAN what a bore! She has insane expectations for your assignments, but she only teaches you the bare necessities. Good luck getting a good mark in Journalism with her... It's possible, but you just never know what's expected of you.

Dull and not memorable. Her classes weren't bad and she explained the material thoroughly enough but it was not presented in an interesting manner. Not super approachable and not relatable to her students in the least. WAY better than Kozlanka though.

Overall a good prof, but I did not find her approachable. She also seemed a little pretentious, and would reply kind of sarcastically to honest questions. She was pretty funny sometimes, and she delivered the material well. Some of her multiple choice questions were trick questions. The assignments were also a little bit strange.

I really enjoyed her class. At first she looked intimidating, but as the semester went on, her sense of humour really showed. I loved her stories from the business and they each related perfectly to her lectures. I would definitely take a class from her again.

Generic. The best thing that can be said about her lectures is that they are "comforting", like one of those electromassagers that relax the muscles with a low-voltage shock every now and then.

She seems uptight and a bit boring first semester but after the brain-numbing experience that is Kozolanka, you'll wish you had her back. Assignments weren't as clear as they could have been. Annoyingly, her lecture notes are posted like 30 mins before the class. (run!) Exam was easy. She's actually a really nice person and kind of funny too.

Super intimidating at first, but really gave a decent overview of journalism basics. Her lectures became better as the semester went on, and she seemed way more approachable. She does make you question why you ever picked journalism, though. She took my self-confidence down a bit, but seriously, it's nothing compared to the semester of death...

Great Prof. She is a very professional and structured lecturer who always relates concepts taught in class to personal stories from her experience as a journalist with the Toronto Star. Do your readings and beware of the news values assignment. Note: treasure Lois Sweet, because you will be longing for her with every fiber of your being come second semester...

She's not as mean as she looks. Lectures are of utmost importance, I do not recommend missing them. She gives you the slides and has very structured lectures, great for first years taking notes. Not the best prof, but in second semester you'll be wishing for her back.

Prof. Sweet is very professional and approachable. I enjoyed her class and while she made us reconsider (almost every class) whether we should even be in journalism, it made me want to work all that much harder. Definitely better than the second half. It's too bad she doesn't teach all of JOUR 1000.

Sweet seemed nice, but the class was discouraging. Don't go into this class expecting to have all your journalistic dreams realized; you're getting the bare bones of what your average reporter does. Assignments seemed easily, but the grading was unpredictable. Exam was what I expected, but study hard anyway. TA was smoking hot.

Really nice, more than willing to help you if you go to her during office hours. Her TAs are really helpful too. Lectures kinda boring and redundant, just read her slides and the readings assigned and you'll be fine. She really tries to help by making it clear what she's looking for in assignments. Good prof overall.

I loved Lois. She was so compassionate and kind. I had a personal tragedy this year, and she went out of her way to help me out. Remember to work very hard in her class. She's nice, but you will be marked fairly hard. The exam was difficult. She makes lectures very clear, just don't underestimate the importance of her lectures.

Not a fan! The lectures were tedious and so were the readings. Teaches how to write thoughtless stories for mainstream newspapers... professors like this are one of the reasons the media is so stagnant and shallow. It was easy, except the final killed a lot of people's marks.. if you can avoid taking her class, I would.
