Comment:
You read a lot of interesting books in this class and Professor Barnett isn't that bad. She can be kind of rude at times and you are kind of forced to participate in group discussions. The tests were also kind of a pain. Overall she's pretty friendly and does have a sense of humor, and the material we covered was very interesting.

Barnett is an excellent professor. The first half of the semester was tough because I was unsure what she would be looking for on exams. However, the second half of the semester, everything was really clear cut and straight forward. Barnett knows lot about the topic and is highly intelligent. Definitely recommend a class with Barnett.

She's pretty narrow-minded and she likes to ask a lot of opinion-based questions and then tell you why your opinion is wrong. She also grades papers as if the course is expos, rather than a film course.

She's a nice lady, but her 19th C class is super boring. You just read the book and pick passages to talk about. Literally, that's all you do. It's kind of a waste of time and you honestly don't learn much of anything.

She's really nice. The class is a little boring & you're expected to read a lot for every class meeting, usually 10-15 chapters of whichever novel is assigned. She's slightly obsessed with Moby Dick. Her exams aren't terrible and the papers are reasonable. Also, class participation is a MUST so do the reading and have something to say.

Barnett is a good person, but this professor is tough and does not give good grades. She will make you work, but she is a very tough grader and hence that will hurt students who need to bring their grades up. She selects good topics and the rest is all ok. But, if one is screwed in grades than all the good don't matter.

She's a personable teacher and easy to talk too. You will participate in this class so read and have something to say about the texts. Her exams are all essay but pretty straight forward. READ and take good notes and you'll do fine.

Awesome class!! Take this instead of the english equivalent! She is very helpful and makes the material interesting. Go to class--a short/quiz writing assignment per week but she drops some at the end, 2 short papers, 2 exams.. overall she is awesome!

Barnett is awesome. My class was the first 050 227 and it was great. It is a very friendly English class especially if you are not too found of literature or are not an English nerd. I don't really like to read but she generated alot of interest in the course. I would recommend this a lot more than taking the English equivalent

The class was not easy, but I like her as a person. The readings she selected were thought provoking. I went to her office hours a couple of times and think she is a very interesting woman. I would recommend taking her classes, but they require some work.

Wow. If you like English, you'll want to shoot youself. If you think the best answer to "what is the function or repetition in this (any) passage?" is "to emphasize"... you'll fit right in. If you've ever taken a legit English course at Rutgers with a challenging professor, and now write complicated papers because of it, no way will you get an A.

Professor Barnett is a little strange, but she really enjoys what she does. She is an easy grader and always grateful for those who contribute during class. I think we had four papers and they were pretty simple. Interesting choice in literary works/very varied. I would recommend her to friends...

Professor Barnett is a very good professor. She encourages participation and expects students to come to own conclusions about readings. The books were very interesting and thoughtfully picked. Once you know how she wants you to write the essays you will realize how easy the class is. I would suggest taking her class if you want really to learn.

The texts she chose were all pretty similar to each other, which was frustrating (although it was a Vietnam War lit class, I guess it's a limited topic). Her lectures were dull and she didn't encourage discussion on a regular basis, although group work was integrated into the class, which was nice.

Her classes were almost as dull as they were useless. She has an immature, uncultured way of analyzing literature. What intellectual human being still considers Melville the greatest author of all time? Also, the use of "plot trangles" was disgraceful

Absolutely useless, very anal and strict. Class dicussions are boring, usually centered around excretion and sex, she is old and dying and dresses like she were 18. Useless readings which you must do and write papers, according to what she feels is right.
