Professor Levao was definitely one of my favorite professors. He made the material understanding and interesting. As long as you read the books and/or take notes during lecture, you should be fine.

Levao brings Shakespeare alive. His lectures are enthusiastic and he really knows the material. If you want to do well, do the reading and attend lectures. Exams are challenging but if you understand the material, you'll be fine. Levao is one of the best professors in the Rutgers English department that'll change your view of literature.

Small seminar class but he is very knowledgable. He's a little awkward and easily sidetracked, but you can tell he really knows what he is talking about. Two papers all semester, third paper optional. Do the readings, he will know if you didn't and he will question you if he thinks you didn't. Loves class participation, and attendance mandatory.

Definitely my favorite professor I have this semester. A highly intelligent, entertaining, and polite man. He is able to answer any/all questions and his lectures span the full 80 minutes however a good 20 to 30 minutes are tangents about his life and experiences which are often funny as hell. He's one of the better professors I've had at Rutgers.

Professor Levao made Shakespeare understandable. Read plays twice, as you go through them, then again, before the final. It's doable and will get you an A. Also, watch films from BBC. Ones that weren't on YouTube I found in the Rutgers library. Use office hours. Show you care. There's treasure to be found in understanding Shakespeare.

I have taken all three of Professor Levao's classes. He is,arguably, one of the brightest individuals I've encountered in life. If he was not an English Professor, I'm certain he would have made a great mathematician or scientist.

Attendance isn't mandatory but you have to go because all his notes are spoken in class. The tests are pretty hard if you don't read the plays throughly and don't attend class. Make sure to do those two things and you should be okay. He's a really nice teacher tho

Everybody has said it already, but it's worth re-affirming... The absolute best professor I've ever had!! One of those people who makes you say, "They just don't make 'em like that anymore." If you want to appreciate the richness of Shakespeare, this is the class to take. His Henry IV, Part 1 lecture is the highlight of my Rutgers experience.

Everyone is speaking sincerely here. Sandy kind of screwed up the semester, but he got us back on track easily. This class is difficult, you will write a lot on exams (or you should anyways) He likes seeing attentiveness and people sitting up front. Even though it was a giant class he made sure to answer questions during the lecture.

LOVE HIM. He tells really funny stories, makes Shakespeare super interesting and is an overall pleasant, charming man. He's also really willing to talk to students outside of class, but I highly recommend that you use the editions that he puts on the booklist for the class otherwise it's hard to keep up with his teaching.

Totally goes off on a tangent during lecture, but that's because he can relate Shakespeare to ANYTHING. He's pretty funny and laid back. Attendance isn't mandatory, bu recommended because quotes from class are on exams. 3 exams, and 8 plays. He typically uses the Folger editions, which are cheap. Overall, not a bad class. Take it if you can!!

AWESOME. Looks exactly like John Lennon! Every lecture was worth going to, because he explains Shakespeare plays so well. He was also very funny and seems approachable! The exams aren't difficult also! Very straight forward and directly from the lectures. He immediately grabs your attention when he starts lecture. Definitely have to take him!!!!!!!

I took Levao in a huge lecture hall but still had a great, in depth experience with the material. He's both funny and engaging so you want to pay attention and totally not boring. He's one of the best professors I've had at Rutgers. If you're an English major - TAKE HIM!

Great professor.don't have to go to class but he does basically give you the exams in lecture.need to memorize quotes so make sure you flag them and memorize the speaker, book, and why its important, you'll know if he wants you to know it rather than just passing by. no attendance. easy to sit through lectures and flag quotes.cram quotes before exam

Levao is the best! He's the most engaging professor I've had at Rutgers. His excitement about Shakespeare is contageous. Also, he's hysterical. Going to class is not mandatory, but a good idea, because he uses quotes that he goes over in class on the exams. MUST take him if you have the chance.
