Professor Marchante is wonderful for both native speakers and non-native speakers. He is very patient and wants to make sure you actually learn the material. I learned so much in one semester! Lecture mostly in Spanish. If you are serious about learning the language, YOU MUST TAKE HIS CLASS.

I hated this class so much. Marchante is pretty interesting sometimes, but when it comes to grading, he gives everyone a B or C and doesn't justify it at all. He gives virtually no feedback, grades seem so arbitrary. But the final was pretty easy, and most of the readings/movies were really well chosen. Take his class at the risk of your GPA...

Marchante-Aragon is interesting at times and very open to participation, but is incredibly inconsistent in grading writing. I found it very hard to figure out what he was looking for in my writing--it seemed like following his numerous comments was little help from one assignment to the next.

This class was bizarre... it seemed really easy, but he grades SO harshly. It's near impossible to get an A. On the papers, don't write what you actually think, write what HE thinks and you'll get a good grade.

I felt like most of the time he was trying to convince us of his opinions. To that end, often asked obvious questions that no one wanted to answer. Lectures are dull, unfocused, painful. You have to take 281 for HS major, otherwise stay away! This class/prof. has made me really question my future in W&M's HS department. Easy A though.

He's nowhere near as terrible as other people have said. I've been in two of his classes and enjoyed both. He's very clear in his explanations and helpful in and outside of class. Obviously very interested in what he teaches. Don't hesistate to take his classes. They are what you make of them.

Okay...I know everyone hates this guy but he's not that bad;boring but easy grader. You'll hate this class every tuesday and thursday but for spanish studies you have to take it. Just turn in your work on time and participate in class and you'll do fine, Bs and As are not hard to get and he never fails anyone.

This man is odious. You dislike him so much as a person that he ability as a professor is irrelevant, you will not like him. Completely unclear about grading rubric handed back our first papers, and THEN decided to tell us what he had been looking for on them...totally illogical

Co-taught my Intro to Hispanic Studies class. His lectures were really boring Power Point presentations. I found it difficult to stay awake.

Nice guy, willing to help (though missed appoitment, not been at scheduled office hours - happened to me once), thick accent and subsequently hard to understand...if you are not fluent, this class will be moderately to very difficult

I didn't learn anything from taking this course. It was really boring and a waste of time but you have to show up to class since he takes attendance. He is a hard grader and doesn't give any feedback on how to improve the next time. Don't take this class

I took Advanced Writing and was really disappointed -- not only did we not learn anything new, instead wasting time on stupid grammar exercises, he gave us virtually no feedback on our papers. We did lots of peer editing instead.
