Does not give any direction on what to note down during the 50 minute lecture. Talks fast so you wont get a chance to even write knowledgeable things. He says you need to study 3 hours for a test but that wont even help you, you need to memorize at least 4 chapters at a time but he wont even give a review guide so you dont know what to study

Incredibly interesting professor, we read Frankenstein and Foundation for this class, and when I went to his office hours he actually told me a story about how he met Isac Asimov when he was young. overall his course was great, fun and interesting professor. I would take another course from him if I can.

I didn't expect to enjoy or do well in this class as a science major but I was very wrong. He's such an interesting teacher and tries to get you to participate in class so lectures aren't so boring. Just take notes and you'll do fine on the quizzes. Exams are tougher but they're not impossible.

His tests (and essays) are pretty tough. Good news- he curves your grade. Dawson is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about what he teaches, so although the lectures are long, they are easy to sit through. You'll need to read the corresponding chapters in the textbook to get an A.

Hard, thoughtful essays, long personally charged and certainly wonderful lectures and a course structure that works well. Very organized, very intelligent.

He's a good professor, LOTS of notes so be prepared to write down everything from his power points or you won't pass, he often flies through them so paraphrasing helps. Overall, quizzes and tests aren't hard as long as you study the notes, there won't be any surprises.

Good prof, grading and workload reasonable. Did learn about many perspectives in class. Like most Gen Eds, the class can be annoying if not a soft science major.

Awesome Professor, very intelligent. Don't understand the complaints about note-taking, if you take down most of what he says and pay attention, you'll do just fine. The point of the timed open-notes quizzes is to make sure you study before the quiz. the notes are a reference.

Goodness, This class is VERY DIFFICULT. had to drop the class because the 2 first exams were so crazy. don't fall for the 'open note' quizzes, he times them.a lot of reading for the class that doesn't correlate directly to his lectures. i asked him for help twice and he just told me to do better?

He talks through the entire class and never gives specific directions as to what needs to be noted. The he gives open note quizes and test where he asks very specific question or definitions based on what he said in passing while lecturing. He is very un organized and very hard to follow.

this was the worst and hardest class ever! i hated it!! his notes are so scattered and hard to follow! His tests are really hard because he doesn't give you much to study off of but expects you to spend 6-8 hours studying the night before a test!! just thankful this class is finally over!

He's very thorough in his notes, so make sure you have a good notebook. Make sure to take notes on the readings because you have open-note quizzes. His tests are hard and he grades them hard, but he curves them. My 81 was an A-, so he knows when they're too hard. He's always willing to help out and go back to make sure you understand.

He planned 5 essays for the semester but assigned 3 of them all in the last 3 weeks... 1 over Spring Break! :( Be really honest in your essays with him... he gave us a supposed true story that he knew was untrue (written by a man pretending he'd been a slave) but didn't tell us and expected us to realize it and put that in our essay!
