Professor Egnal is one of my favourite professors at York to date. He is very structured, entertaining, and knowledgable. His course was diffcult because of the grading scheme, but I had a lot of fun and would recommend this course very highly! Lots of knowledge condensed in a clear, concise manner. Definitely taking Intro to US Studies!

Egnal is solid. His class has a very clear structure and he'll pound that framework into your head all year. You would need to sleep through his course not to do well. His purpose in teaching is to make people better writers. If you give him garbage, he'll make you re-write. But that is just a 2nd opportunity to get an A. Read a novel a week.

Professor Egnal is a good professor. Just not a good teacher. He is a horrible grader. He lets you rewrite the essay, but the rewrite is focused on grammar and style rather than content (ie YOUR OPINION). He doesn't like creativity either. I was constantly discouraged from thinking as an English major. He's a good person just not a good teacher.

He might sound boring in the beginning but he is an AWESOME LECTURER. if you attend class all the time % copy down his powerpoint outline, you will have all the answers for the exam essay questions. TRUST ME so attend class. he also sings & refers to fail movies that tried to tell a story about amer. history. great prof, thank you for teaching me:)

Great prof that really helps you improve your essay writing. If your essay is below a certain standard you get the chance to rewrite it without penalty. The course subject matter was a clear and understandable way to read American literature. Read a great novel a week. Awesome.

He is such a horrible teacher. The way he marks is ridiculous. He focuses way too much on the style (eg spelling/grammar) than on the content of the essay. he thinks his style of writing is the best and he only encourages that style. He is also very arrogant; no other opinion matters besides his own. The worst prof I've ever had.

He is an overall good lecturer, has a simple layout and follows it. The readings were really easy and the assigments fair (though the final essay had some wierd topic choices). Tries to make the lecture interesting though he is a little monotone. I recommend this class

The lectures and tutorials were a treat!!! The T.A's Mark A and Ian Mc have great discussions. Good preparation for a third year course because of analytical skills. Warning: don't sit in the back.

Egnal is a fine professor. However, his T.A Karen Travers has been sent from the depths of hell to bring havoc and unnecessary stress to American History. For a survey course I took out of interest in my 4th year, I was spending WAY too much time worrying about getting (at the very least) a B. If you have her, run. Dear god, RUN.

Major is poli sci & I'm taking this as an xtra credit. It is by far my fave class. Marc makes the lectures, fun and interesting with his humour and singing. I don't find his singing awkard at all. He's a breath of fresh air compared 2 profs. The course content is awesome & I make an effort 2 go 2 class cuz i enjoy it so much. Definitely enlist!!!

Sings quit a bit in lecture which is sometimes awkward (because he's not very good at it). Easy to take notes while he talks, he will explain it point by point and repeat the key terms. He can get a bit boring or dull at times bc he tends to be monotone but overall if you're interested in American history, you will most likely enjoy his lectures

I never had a tutorial with him, but I absolutely loved his lectures. There's a lot of great knowledge to gain from his lectures, and somehow he delivers it all in such a slow manner that it's extremely easy to take notes. I love his sense of humour- it can be dry and cheesy, but that's part of his charm. One of the few lectures I rarely missed.

The Prof constantly sings, mumbles and expects you to learn everything in the matter of a year. Course load is heavy and he is unclear in his lectures. Highly would not recommend this course!

Such a great prof. he makes lectures interesting. jokes all the time (although very dry) and sings all the time. he also likes to mumble a lot, and his voice AND look is like napoleon dynamite (seriously). if you have bad hearing, i suggest you sit at the front. i love this prof, recommended.
