Comment:
This class is a solid choice for a writing credit. Dr. Jenkins is very enthusiastic about the topic and entertained good class discussion. Don't skip class; anything she writes on the board, especially more than once, will be good material for the essay exams.

Doesn't post lecture notes but her lectures themselves are great. Really good at explaining difficult concepts (I took phenomenology from her). Fair marker and her tests are compare and contrast style. Attending class is a must.

I enjoyed her class and found her to be very good at lecturing, but she is an extremely hard marker. If she decides she doesn't like your writing style, you won't get anything higher than a 70%. Make sure you take your notes word-for-word as she speaks, because she takes marks off if you don't use her exact phrasing.

I enjoyed her class and appreciated how she dissected the concepts in an easy to understand way. She doesn't post notes and only writes on the board, so If you don't mind that you will love her! Great class discussion without feeling pressured to contribute. I am not a philosophy major or minor, but she made the material accessible and marked fair.

She is a great prof who cares about her students. She writes all her notes in class so I would recommend attending. She grades things very fairly and does not expect her students to memorize the whole textbook. I loved taking this class from her as she made the confusing topics really simple to understand. Would definitely recommend her!

Very kind lady! She always highlighted things that she would test on; really liked compare and contrast questions. The midterm was rushed but she seemed to mark accordingly. You MUST go to class she doesn't post notes and interpreting the materials yourself would be very daunting. Sometimes her notes get erratic so makes sure to pay attention.

Really knows her stuff. She writes all her notes on the board in class so showing up is a must. The textbook only gives more context but if you just study her notes you'll do fine. I liked everything about her except she graded the term paper quite hard but the midterm and final are straightforward if you attend class (she gives hints!) solid prof

Took a first year philosophy with no idea what I was getting into. Definitely not the right class for me but was able to get an average mark in a class I probably would have failed with another professor. She's a very fair grader and gives clear feedback after tests. Also graded very fairly on the paper as I got a much higher grade than expected

Took Phil 231 and 237 from this prof, overall very good. Do attend lectures and take notes on what she says, you will do well on midterm and final. Her written notes on the board are sometimes messy and disorganized. But important points she will emphasize. She will also tell you what questions will be on midterm and final.

Maricarmen is evidently passionate about what she teaches. She constantly asks if students have any questions and wants to see them excel. She clearly covers the main points and writes down notes on the board that are essential to your understanding. She does her best to make the topic interesting and brings some humour to her lectures.

Great lectures, walks into the classroom and begins her lecture using the whiteboard, can take notes based off that... Did not use text often. Could tell she was very passionate about what she was teaching, would highly recommend.

My favorite prof in my first year. Class was at 9:30am, but she made me want to go because of her interesting lectures. Was easy to pay attention and remain connected to the material. Do not really need to do extra readings, as she covers everything clearly in class. It is crucial you attend though or you will be lost.

Moral Problems was a great course to take this term. 1 midterm, 1 essay (6-7 pages), and 1 final. The lectures were consistently interesting and helpful. The topics and readings were also very enjoyable ... I don't see how anyone interested in philosophy (especially ethics) could not enjoy this class. Highly recommended.

Great philosophy prof ! classes are mandatory to do well. She does not post any notes on paws so you rely completely on your own notes. Her lectures are very interesting if you pay attention. Her exams are very hard and you need to study hard. She is a kind person and will help you if you ask. Her notes are all over the place ! only drawback.

Fantastic prof. Explains difficult concepts clearly and with enthusiasm. Sit near the front: her notes are a bit hard to read. She marks essays generously and exams quite hard. Prepare for the exams! Overall one of the best philosophy profs at the U of S.

Fairly good in terms of her knowledge of the course and skill at articulating it. Her notes tend to leap from one corner of the board to another though, with vague arrows pointing the way. In a way it helps you learn, for you must pay your full attention at all times for fear of losing where she is :P. All in, decent professor, marks essays fairly.

One of the best profs from my first year! I attended almost all of the lectures. I didn't do the greatest on all of my assignments, but I can still say that I enjoyed the course. It is VERY important to keep up with the textbook readings and to attend the lectures. I unfortunately fell behind in the readings and it was very detrimental to my grade.

If you don't go to class you will not do well in this class at all. She references the textbook on occasion but nothing drastic. I thought she did a really great job explaining everything; pay attention or don't bother with her classes at all. Super approachable and really easy to talk to.
