Comment:
Turns his class into a temple of science. Thoroughgoing realist (hence no room for any philosphy). Will teach you the same hackneyed ideas about realism. Not critical of his own views, and will bury any criticism under the weight of his tremendous breadth of scientific erudition. It's philosophy at its driest.

Bunge is polymath who attempts to awaken his students, by either having them agree with what he says, or have them attack his ideas.Do see what he has to say on a topic before you present it, otherwise he will take your paper or presentation apart.A good course, but not for those without an opinion.

Comment:
Basically a polemicist. Knows an amazing amount about science and defends it passionately. His comments on philosophers, literature, and art are much less insightful -- often just wrong, I think. Class has strange "question and ramble" format with a month of presentations at the end. Never lectures.

Agreed. enjoy the fight. He is his own system. Those are wise who know that his philosophy is a product of his age.

Rejects all views that are not in agreeance with his own. Can actually be quite rude and disrepectful to students he disagrees with.

Bunge teaches a class like no other - not a "balanced" presentation of all sides but rather a bold attempt to get students to think critically and trash bad philosophy and pseudoscience. More like a revolutionary movement than a class. It's good that not all classes are like his, but I loved it.

sure, he's written alot, but how many of his books were published by academic presses? And, yes, he knows alot, but rejects everything he disagrees with, even the work of more reputable thinkers. Get a phil of science reader and come up with your opinions; stop taking Bunge's word for everything!

Anyone who criticizes this great man surely has felt defeat while debating him. It is without a doubt that he knows more off the top of his head about any book than you could after just having read it

Perhaps the most inspiring and admirable person i have met at mcgill. The man has accomplished more in his academic life than the next top ten philosophers of science combined. Its a sad shame that many do not respect him to the degree that he deserves.
