Comment:

You basically have to teach yourself everything. HARD tests! He barely skims the book. You have to read everything on your own. He expects you to memorize the book word for word. You also have a small easy project, and 3 small easy reports to do. He is VERY rude to students. I never asked him a question because I was too afraid to. DO NOT take him.

It's a tough class and moves quickly. Make sure you write down the problems during class to understand them and read the chapters, since he briefly skims over them in class. Write the max pages for the website reports. The tests aren't easy, but he gives credit for attempting the work, not just getting the right answer. Attend every class!

Very oldschool type of teaching. No class involvement other than calling on people to answer questions at the end of chapter. No application or theory, just read the chapter before class, complete end of chapter questions in class. Knows what he's doing, but teaching style doesn't really foster learning much. Tests are tricky as well.

Zero theory taught, only concentrated on doing problems at the end of the chapters. If you are a finance major, he is great for you. For the rest of us,I would say to him teach me what to do with the numbers, don't teach me how to get the numbers...

Can I say not to take him enough?? I think the good ratings are because he hardly assigns homework. Okay, I get it, students don't like homework. But has anyone really learned anything from him? I took him twice for two different classes, and that was a HUGE mistake. I found only one way to avoid taking him for a third class... Get out if possible!

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU WANT TO LEARN... Only teaches how to complete problems at the end of the chapters, ZERO theory, ZERO interest in being in the class. I am not a finance major, and I should not be playing in the weeds doing calculations as a manager. This professor needed to retire many years prior. I learned nothing!!!

There was no homework that was graded but some problems to do occasionally. He was soooooo helpful and knowledgable. Tax was a very difficult subject for me and I was happy to have him as a teacher. Tests were hard but tax is hard in general. I would recommend him.

If Judy Knapp for Tax 1 is available, I would recommend it. I haven't had her, but I do not recommend him. Tests are EXTREMELY hard. No homework, no way that he evaluates if you know the material except the hard exams. I feared I did not pass, but I did pass both Fed Tax + FINC with him. But they are by far the two lowest scores I have gotten here.

He didnt seem like he was very prepared for classes, but he was very knowledgeable of the material taught. The class only had 400 total points and the tests were extremely hard. No homework, but reading/outline the chapters were the only reason I passed

Worked equation problems from end-of-chap ALL class EVERY class w/0 theory. 25% of the tests were T/F MC that were theory ?s designed to be impossible. Assignments were light, but I felt he purposely mislead us on the tests because he focused entirely on equations in class & then made the T/F MC HARD but told us they would be simple key term ?s.

Good teacher for the most part, gives extra time when needed, however this is a VERY VERY difficult class (Fed Tax 1), or at least for me it was, and he does not give ANY excuses for bad test scores, NO CURVES, and they are by far the hardest tests I have ever had to take, even with it being open book, so don't get behind, STUDY STUDY STUDY!!!

Great prof. Very intelligent on the subject and very helpful in making sure everybody understands the material. He would do alot of inclass examples to help everybody learn the material which ment there was very little homework. Easy grader on the projects but his tests were not easy, have to study hard.

Mark is a great professor. Made the 4 hours of class fly by and really knew how to relate with students. Funny guy. One of the best (if not the best) professors I've ever had.

I've had Mark for 3 classes - Corp. (Finance FINC211), Fed. Tax 1 & 2 (ACCT 315 & 316) - and got A's in all classes. Mark goes over problems in class so there's minimal homework and you know exactly what to expect on the tests. Only downside is grades are based only on projects and tests so I def do not recommend skipping!

Very patient and nice, will explain thoroughly if you ask questions. Doesn't lecture much but gets right into working on the problems in class. Only two tests in the class so make sure you study well.
