Loaded syllabus and multiple essays due on the same due date. Sign-in attendance. Weekly quizzes based on trivia from the readings. Started as pop, but we were doing too poorly on them. Lectures felt rushed, but long, and we often ran out time. Sadly, it felt like he discouraged class discussion or didn't leave time for us when planning lectures.

Comment:
I found that the atmosphere of Professor Jones's class on William Blake ranged from clinical to uncomfortable. He is disorganized. Fourth year seminars should be a chance to build something intellectually and emotionally with your fellow classmates. Prof. Jones failed to implement this ideal, and I wouldn't recommend him to future students.

The material is incredibly dense and Mark is not a great lecturer. The class felt like hell and we dropped from 72 to 30ish, but you do learn a lot more from this class than any of your other english classes.

Jones is pretty difficult overall, but if you put in the time and effort he expects of his students, you will reap the rewards. Readings are a must. His lectures tend to be very dry and at times hard to follow. Despite this, the content of his course will really make you re-think the way you study English.

This class uses abstract theories, and isn't at all what I thought from the description. The class always has a few keeners, but for the most part everything is over the classes heads. Mark Jones is a passionate, albeit, scatterbrained prof, but the course itself is too abstract and boring.

As a student who is interested in the period, I found the lectures interesting. However, I found that they were too concerned with the history of the period and not on the actual works, whereas the exams were focused almost exclusively on the works (filling in missing words from likes of poetry, etc).

A very hard marker, for certain. But extremely willing to help. He will tutor you on your writing, and edit entire drafts for you. Cares a tremendous amount about your feedback and extremely well read in all his pedagogy. He knows everything. I didn't understand why he did everything he did, but he has good reasons when you ask him.

Professor Jones cared lots, was very approachable but his lectures were all over the place, drier than the desert, and really only useful for working on other classes' work. Drew senseless diagrams. Three months to mark our essay. Attendance mandatory but useless for learning. Forbid from using in-class material on essays & exam. Never again.

professor jones's lectures were always (and i say this without being facetious) vague at best. he was available to speak with outside of class, and he is helpful in that respect, but he is the most unapproachable man i have ever met. you will leave feeling confused on good days and completely deflated by his negativity on bad days.

I found this class to be really informative. The first couple of weeks were confusing, true, but then it all started to make sense. I also found both him and the TA to be much easier markers than has been made out here, and the exam was a cakewalk.

Favoured male students in the class, did not discuss any feminist perspectives, comments on essays unduly harsh, made several peers cry, lectures were boring and attempted to be overly philosophical without really making a point. A huge disappointment.

I am amazed at the number of positive comments here. I did not talk to a single person in my class who was happy with the lectures or the marking. Personally, I found his lectures painful and uninformative. On his behalf, he is enhusiastic and a willing to help, but his ability to teach is non-existent.

Although Jones seems to be a nice, genuine guy, his class was horrible. His lectures were extremely unclear and he rambled on whether the class understood or not. He's very hard to follow, especially because the poetry he chose was so difficult. The exam-which he thought was too easy-was excruciating. Be prepared to get a bad mark in this class.

My experience with this teacher was one of the most traumatizing moments in all my years of education. I have never been brought to tears by a teacher, but this man managed to do it multiple times. Not to mention that you will get at least 10% under the grade you normally recieve. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!

I enjoyed Romantics before I took this class. However, Prof. Mark Jones killed all my interest in this period. He is a mean-spirited, uninspiring, ruthless man who loves to fail students. Although he is very knowledgeable about the period, he is unable to teach effectively. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
