This professor was so entertaining, helpful and knowledgeable that I ended up taking his Research Writing, Great Classics and a one more of his classes. He introduced me to my favorite novel of all time, Brave New World. He even wrote me a letter of recommendation. He is a gem, and I can't thank him enough.

I loved him! I think the subject matter is extremely boring, but I enjoyed listening to Dr. Maner's lectures b/c he always added interesting commentary/facts to it, and he is just so enthusiastic about it. He's just a genuinely NICE man. I'm sad not to take another class with him as he'll be retiring again after this quarter.

Very Strict prof. If you want to work very hard, take him. You will get a lot out of his clases. I've taken him twice, he's good at what he does. This is college, and he treats you like you're in college. The work is hard, but worth it.

Dr. Maner is a nice person, but he is an extremely hard professor. He tells you that the entire English department thinks he's a tough grader. He is a stickler for MLA format so you better know it and know it well. He's also extremely picky on what he wants in a paper. If you can, take another professor for this course. It's not worth the stress.

Awesome guy who loves English, but somewhat unhelpful in helping to prepare you for what he expects from the class. I took 4 pages of notes a day and did all of the reading assignments and I still was perplexed by the questions on the tests.

I've never received lower than a B on any type of paper before, but he gave me a D. He's VERY strict on MLA formatting and content and does an hour of research for each paper to find any tiny errors. The exams are easy but he's WAY too strict with papers. I don't recommend him unless you are willing to bust your butt for a barely passing grade.

He is quite funny. I enjoyed his class. He tends to ramble on, so sometimes I found myself counting down the minutes. The class was easy and the final paper was a joke. His tests were like 25 questions, so you dont have alot of room to miss many. Cliff notes are enough for the reading quizzes.

Loved this guy! He was so interesting and fun. Really enjoyed learning from him--and he wasn't hard if you did the readings. He demands college-level work. A lot of students just want to be spoon-fed the info so they can regurgitate it back for the test. He understands that an education requires so much more. And, he's not pompous.

Have had twice now plus he is my advisor. Brilliant man. The reports of him being rude are likely due to a failure to understand his sense of humor or an inability to handle the truth. If he feels you are not up to par he WILL let you know.

Wow, Maner is not for the faint of heart but he is definitely worth taking. He is by far the smartest prof. I've ever encountered. He is a no b.s. kind of guy and he expects his students to actually perform at college level (go figure) but he is fascinating to listen to. Don't take him for a blow-off course.

This guy was horrible in 102 b/c he would give failing grades if you did not have the same software on your computer as he had at home. Automatic F if you have 27 lines instead of 26 per page...very uptight and rude.

This just might be the easiest English class I've had. Do the readings, show up for class and pay attention, and tests are no problem. Dr. Maner is intelligent, interesting and amusing which makes even the difficult texts likeable. I wish I was taking more of his classes- too bad he's retiring.

He feels that "rudeness is a way of life for a substantial number of students" and that students are universally rude. Perhaps he should not be teaching if students bother him so much.
