Such a wonderful, fresh professor! SO kind and genuinely cares about each student in her lecture (knows everyones name by second day). Very passionate about what she teaches. Sometimes gives too much context for a text instead of actually analyzing it but still amazing lectures! Work load and grades are super reasonable, just do your work!

Dr Leighton made a class with material I wasn't very interested in engaging and fun. She really cared about everyone's opinions. We did fall a bit behind schedule on occasions though, resulting in cutting material. Regardless, I would take another class with her.

Very cheerful, but do not let this deceive you; despite her personality she is a very tough marker. Clear lectures and assignments. Highly encourages in-class participation (e.g. reading out loud, group activities, etc). Not an easy prof, but definitely a strong one.

Very nice professor, very intelligent, says "kind of" a *million* times per class. She knows how to write well, is a bit hard on marking but I think no worse at all in that regard than any other 3rd or 4th year prof. I recommend taking her class because she comes up with genuinely creative projects!

Fairly interesting class, enjoyed not simply reviewing the text but their was too much context. Don't need to know where the authors father was born and see a picture of the castleĆ¢€¦ Also she played favourites, and never returned my final essay, ignoring my emails. I was highly disappointed as she was a challenging teacher and I wanted to like her.

Dr. Leighton is a very kind and open person. That said, her personality is not a reflection of her expectations at all. She is a very difficult grader. Do not let her cheerful personality fool you. I got Cs on pieces I would have gotten Bs on in other classes. Very rewarding if you're willing to work harder or take a lower grade.

After the first half of this course (year-long), these are my observations so far... Class discussions were very enjoyable. I wish we could have talked about the following week's assignments in class at more length, however. One 3-hour class per week was hard. Would be better as two 1.5's. Would have liked more in-class guidance for following week.

Take her courses--especially the ones in which you study novels that're more fun than prose essays. She treats her students with respect and marks fairly. Plus if you choose juicy class presentation topics, you'll get to tell everyone a some good tales.

Dr. Leighton is awesome! Sure, our class readings were a little dull (but, hey, they're from the Victorian Era!) But Dr Leighton made class fun and interesting. And she's super flexible (she actually gave me an extension on an extension for a paper!). I highly recommend her!

Great in class dynamics, very knowledgeable and helpful on deadlines. Welcomes in class discussion, but tends to pick the annoying kids too much. Assignments a bit oddly weighted.

Utterly useless. I agree with the highschool comment, and will add she's a pedantic waste of time. You gotta love a professor who uses large obscure words needlessly (probably to impress)and ends up mispronouncing them. She'd be great in community college, but definately not University.

High school? Only the most immature, high school-level student would rate dr leighton negatively on this website. A total idiot! She is one of the best profs at UVic

What is this, highschool? 'Quizes' at the start of class? Ridiculous. She's nerdy, has bad jokes, and is a total pedant.

Facilitates great discussions and makes an effort to learn everyone's name. She's an easy-to-follow lecturer. I don't think she lives up to her potential to instill a really deep understanding of the material, but she makes the class interesting and fun.
