I had professor Craven for COMN 4010 - Communications Field Experience She loves research so the course was heavy on the readings. It was mandatory to attend classes. Don't skip or come in late, she will notice! She's easily accessible by email and is open to meeting with students. Overall she's a nice lady.

Dr. Craven is, overall, a good professor: she knows what she's talking about, and the class I took with her (Intro to Documentaries) was quite enjoyable -- just be forewarned that she's very critical in marking papers, and you'll have a lot of them to write in the semester (ten 400 word short responses, and one 2500 word term paper).

I had a great experience with prof Craven. I do understand that people find her cold or intimidating, but coming from a Dutch university myself, I am actually used to this. She is strict, direct and straight to the point. Which is good, because that is how you learn. I don't have time for profs sugarcoating everything and lecturing without content.

Mary Louise Craven is one of the worst professors I've ever had. She is rude to her students, and grades extremely hard. She is so difficult. She gives C's on everything and she's never available for extra help. Also, she doesn't answer her emails from students.

Mary-Louise is someone you have to warm up to, and I dont blame people for finding her cold. But honestly, I had great experience with her and even though she isnt the most inspirational, she always showed up ready to teach. Simply an average professor. Textbook is barely necessary.

I currently have her for an effective communication class but she is literally the most ineffective communicator I've ever encountered. Steer clear if you can. Sad, because the course description and assignments have the potential to be so helpful and so practical. I was advised not to take her class, I should have listened.

Just awful! Mean and cannot teach! I haven't learned anything and I really wanted to! I was enthusiastic and I raised my hand a lot and she forgets to sometimes grade your homework! Just oops I forgot.. I also agree that she makes fun of students and laughed at them. She also makes us rip eachother apart with criticism. Just a painful class

By far the worst prof i have had in all my years at york. She is rude, she calls out favourite's in front of the class and calls out those who have done poorly in front of the class. She is not helpful, doesn't know the definition to Irony. This class will teach you nothing, you will leave it with lower confidence in your work, and that's all

Waste of money course overall. Just need it for foundation course purposes. Only thing I liked about this course is exams are given before hand. I would just skip the lectures, pointless. Tutorials are the only thing you need to go for.

i agree... do not take her class. she takes offense if you dont agree with what she says. her examples are ridiculous as well.. some interesting videos were shown and i learned so much more. final exam is somehwat based on those videos so if you are stuck with this class, go to those. T.A's are awesome however, at least mine was great. very helpful

What a damn prof, only 0.3% from an upper grade but she refuses to give me. Her lecture speeches are irrelevant to course material & exams. I don't understand why she can be hired by York.
