A solid choice if you must take an intro to programming class. His lectures are informative, if sometime a bit of a snooze, the textbook is solid and his marking is fair. He is the chair of the computer science school so he does know his stuff! Forget about taking FORTRAN and take C with Benson as your prof instead. You'll be glad you did.

Very difficult to pay attention to, doesn't know what "caps lock" is, has the softest most gentle voice in the world and will put you to sleep.

Assignments got progressively harder but they built off of each other very well. The major project had plenty of room for creativity as can be seen from his office door. The only problem with this course is the exam. It's difficult, not closely tied to assignments, and worth too much.

Comment:

Very direct and to-the-point. Good at answering direct questions about any computer science class and recommending good software tools. Gives you what you need to do assignments and his advice is sound for any professional programmer. Excellent time management for a class that it was his first time teaching, perfect assessment of exam time needs.
