Dr. Emami is a brilliant professor. He holds his students to standards that can be apprietated by anyone who cares about their education. Very pationate lectures and film selection is diverse. He gives you tools and vocabulary to articulate theoretical and technical aspects of film. I would difenetly recomend to any of my peers.

I have been attending Grossmont for 2+ years and have had many mediocre teachers. Mr. Emami is not one of them. You will have to participate in class and desire to learn. If you are interested in the art of film, I cannot recommend this class enough. Mr. Emami's teaching style/attitude made this year great.

He is not helpful at all unless you want to be a Director and can easily relate to him. He will drop a student as soon as he gets the chance if he doesn't like you.

One class was for lectures (which was him reading off a word document) and the other class was for movies (only a few was I able to stay awake in). Learned pretty much nothing in his class being that he is very hard to understand. 2 tests, 1 research paper with presentation, and 11 or so journals on each movie watched. Makes rude comments.

Emami is a good guy, but his recent stroke makes it hard to for him to be understood by his students and for him to understand them in return. He goes on Tangents, but he will also find his way back to the subject. The class is not impossible and attendance is required, he will drop you. Being helpful will put you in his good graces, he needs it.

Not helpful at all. Hard to understand clearly because of his accent. Hard to hear him and I sat in the second row. Always changing the dates for the finals. Always talking about politics and how Americans are superficial and greedy.

Easy going, sit in front his accent goes only so far. Class is straight forward and he is helpful only if you approach him and ask.

Most of the time hard to understand. He seems to be making some stuff up as he goes along in his lectures. The good thing about him is that he will give you feedback on your work. If you are willing to put in the work of bringing your writings to him, he will give you feedback. Rework it like he wants you to and you will get a good grade.

Let me start off by saying HE NEEDS TO RETIRE. Lectures were torture & movies were mediocre (at best). Emami loves bringing up topics that literally have NOTHING to do with our material (like how Americans have poor manners). I thought this was a film class? We watched 1 classic and many poor movies I've literally never heard of. AWFUL class.

He means well but he is just not a good teacher. His english is not the best. His lectures consist of him reading off of a word doc and you copying it down. The movie choices are okay. I thought he would have picked more classics. PROS: really easy midterm and paper are super simple CONS: boring lectures, not the best movies.

Horrible class. This guy comes from one of those rude cultures that has no manners. The cameras are defective if you can even get one. The guy who rents out the cameras is a lazy hillbilly whose main concern is keeping his lazy do nothing "job" He and Prof Rude work well together. After you check out a broken camera, u get an F for an incomplete.

Horrible. His lectures made no sense. Every one of my fellow students hated the guy and said that he doesn't give enough time for the lengthier projects. Supremely unhelpful. He always, always assumes that any problem with the editor, camera, equipment, (even the weather) are your fault. I got an A and it almost killed me.

This is one tough teacher. He's honest and blunt with his students. He pushes you to work HARD. Only complaint is sometimes he's contradictory in what he says. But if you work and dedicate yourself you can make it. Do not come to class thinking you can slack off and get by. If you want a big challenge, take him.

Most useless class i've ever taken. Lots of teacher student drama and picked on all the 7 students who remained in the class. Only started to teach us when the dean sat in class. No idea why he is still teacher. Needs to retire

This is the best professor I have ever taken. He is truly a teacher who cares about his students and because he cares, he calls them to high standards. He makes himself available in his office, offering advice and encouragement. He is a true philosopher and artist. Disregard the unfavorable reviews and learn the craft from a great master.

The class was enjoyable, but unless you're a student who he seems to favor, you're not sure where you stand with him. There are 2 exams, a term paper, and students have to write film journals (turned it at the end of the sem.) for each movie watched in class.

I've had him for a few different mcom closses including script writing and film analysis and yea, he has favorites (and i, unfortunately, didn't make that list) and he does seem to favor men. But he is a very smart man and as soon as you learn to understand his logic and mind games the class eases up. I am taking 2 more of his classes next semester

Took it in summer and liked him a lot. You have to participate, do a project a week, but the class and prof give you feedback so you know if you're on the right track. He's approachable in class and office. He's very opinionated and expects you to do your work, and if that bothers you maybe you shouldn't go into media.

You learn useful material, however not really from him. He doesn't seem to care about the students nor what they think. Very opionated and offensive. A good grade is easy to achieve, but you have to put in a good effort. Try someone else if you can.
