I had Professor Dewer for Lat102. He is the best Latin professor that I have ever met at uoft. I really enjoyed not only his teaching style, but also his historical and cultural commentaries of all the passages read in Shelmerdine. I'd like to take another course with him.

This guy knows Latin like it's his mother tongue. Literally a resurrected Roman. Has a vast sea of knowledge on Roman culture, government, language and so much more. He is an Oxford graduate so his standards are really high. He actually cares about what he does but he will not walk through the course holding your hand. Good luck.

AMAZING! My favorite Prof at U of T so far. Lectures are incredibly interesting, tests are manageable and Dewar is a hilarious and understanding individual. Favorite class, I will be looking for classes taught by him in the future.

Professor Dewar is excellent. He possesses a tremendous amount of knowledge about history and language and shares it with the class in an entertaining and memorable way. He is, without question, one of the best teachers I have ever had. This man not only knows Latin well, he knows how to teach it effectively. I thoroughly recommend him!

Prof. Dewar was the best professor I've had in my term at school. The most informative and the one who could make a whole room laugh. I think all the ladies had intellectual crushes on him. :) His classes are always a lot of fun to be in and I would recommend them to anyone in the classics field.

Unbelievably good lecturer -- the best I have ever seen. He can be a bit prickly at times, but that's all part of his charm and brilliance. If you want to understand the Greeks and the Romans, M.J. Dewar is the man.

Professor Dewar is incredibly intelligent, and knows the material. He is an excellent, interesting lecturer, but what I found was that he regurgitates a lot of what is already in the readings, which there is a fair amount of. Worth it to take the class just for his lecture style though, very funny, and very charismatic.

Prof. Dewar was great. I almost dropped the course, but after going to the first class I was hooked. He's dynamic, funny, intelligent, and has a lovely accent! He made me want to continue on with classics. I hope to be in another one of his classes.
