Amazing prof. If you're in univeristy to find a spouce and drink beer, don't take his class. If you're willing to put in the work, this is a prof that teaches from the old school. A huge wealth of knowledge is stuffed in his head. He may get distracted, but the metanarrative is always consistant if you follow the readings. A brilliant man.

People taking anthropology because they wanted an easy degree hate this prof, which is where many of these poor ratings have come from. This man is a genius. One of the most intelligent professors I've ever had - If you are serious about anthropology (looking to grad school, etc) don't pass him up! He teaches theory not often taught. Awesome guy.

Pros: Very openminded, knowledgeable, and interesting for a TA and prof. I know lots of students were upset with his lecturing style, which was very loose, but if you stop trying to write down his lectures and listen to him, you will find it more pleasurable and do well. He's really nice and don't hesitate to ask him for help. Passionate about Anthr

Kenny has great mannerisms that made the first few class entertaining but that soon lost it's charm. His lectures are VERY confusing and disorganized but he wrote his own CCW that is where most of your energy should be spent (and the other books). If you are deciding between going to lecture and staying home to read the CCW, stay home!

I really enjoyed this class, and the lectures. He does go on about things that don't seem related but it's all to help you understand what anthropology is and how to go about thinking about things in the class.

I've been warned about this man, but I needed the 4 credits. This was one of the most awful classes I've taken in SFU - piles of reading, incoherent & boring early morning lectures, and a theme that could be summarized like this: "All cultures are different...we should respect them all". Easy grades on the 2 papers you're forced to write though.

Comment:
The biggest sticking point for Kenny is his lectures, which are boring and uninteresting to the uninitiated in anthropology. Not a great way to lure students towards the area. However, his class is PISS easy if you read the texts and don't slack off too much. Alot of readings, but all are easy reads. Just make sure you leave yourself time to do it.

this class takes up all of your time, insane amount of really boring readings. 4 textbooks and all of them you have to read cover to cover because its all on the final. his lectures are absolutely useless and have no connection to the readings. he rambles on about bible stories for no apparent reason. he seems to really like it though.

Never take a class from this man. this was my biggest mistake at SFU. the man babbles incoherantly about the bible most of the time. PILES of readings that are awful. i stopped attending his lectures after the mid-term. he is cracked.

Boring class, I basically slept thru the last half of the course. Insane amount of readings, dull if you have no clue about Anthropology before taking the class. Class was a bit easy though, so if you are willing to endure thru the tedious lectures then go for it.

There is an unreasonable amount of readings for this course; it is fairly difficult for those who cannot read at an intermediate level. Remember to do notes after readings. Remember spend as much time as possible on the paper. The prof is uses a lot of anecdotes; isn't very clear in his teaching.

He is definately passionate about his job. Tends to spend a lot of time at the beginning of lecture discussing current issues...that really do not pertain to the actual readings. Gets boring listening to him ramble on about that and everyone falls asleep. He seems to mark easier than his TAs so have no fear having him as your TA.

really boring class, no one really understands the profs lectures. on the other hand the tests are really easy if you get a good TA, but i found the course to be to focused on history

Prof tended to ramble & get off-topic, but was interesting. TA was great, & as usual improved content & understanding of course. Would probably take another course from him, but you have to be prepared to do a lot of work on your own.

Clearly he's brilliant but terrible course org. Am doing this Dist. Ed. and there 6 (tough) books to read. TOO much info (for time), impossible to learn, absorb and engage content fully. Would be an interesting class if not so much work. I'm an intrinsic learner - I'm not lazy. Irritated that I don't have time to enjoy. TOO much info for intro.
