He began the year as one of my least favorite teachers, mostly because I found him horribly boring and awkward. However, as the semester went on, his personality and intelligence began to show. He's very softspoken and his lectures can be a little longwinded, but he cares and wants his students to succeed!

Professor Soto is a very introspective, soft-spoken, yet passionate fellow. I personally never found his lectures dull because they expanded upon the readings, giving more ways to analyze the texts. He assigns a reading every day from various authors. Although some are more enjoyable than others, he always has new insights. Not hard but u will work

He is a dull professor, but it was manageable. however, he is not an easy grader. I write decent essays and usually don't get bellow a B+ in any of the essays, until I encountered Dr. Soto. You have to proof read a million times, and even then I feel like it's still not enough to get that A.

He's not terribly interesting as a lecturer, but he clearly knows his stuff (don't listen to those who tell you otherwise.) He's not the best, but he grades easily and it's all very predictable...until the final project, which isn't hard, but is really random and unrelated to the readings.

He's knowledgable about the subject, but he's dull. Luckily he's not that hard of a grader. If you have to take him, do. It's not the worst. He reminds me a little of Ross from Friends, only a lot less lively.

One of the dullest courses I've ever taken at Trinity. Soto is listless, has no enthusiasm for his topic, and I spent most of the year trying not to fall asleep. The class is easy, but at the cost of being so bored that I want to die twice a week, it's not worth it. The final project is a joke that has nothing to do with English. Avoid at all costs

The main complaint I had about this class was the reading material. For the first half of the semester it was pretty boring and it didn't get much better in the second. His exams were not fun either because they were mostly long essay questions. There are also not a lot of grades in this class, so it's very important to do well on those.

took him for new realism-modernism and two senior seminars. he's by far the most knowledgeable, interesting, and capable english professor at trinity. he's very very helpful outside of class and it's really not that much work. yea he lectures alot, but only in lower division. when you go higher its much more seminaresque. TAKE HIM!

Avoid. This class is horribly boring and he sprung a mystery thing on our final. Mine was at 8:30 AM + Soto's monotonous voice made virtually my whole class fall asleep every Tuesday/Thursday.

Probably the most boring person I have ever known. His classes put me to sleep, so I used them as a nap period. He drones on and on about things no one should have any interest in and class never gets out early even when everything has been said. There's minimal work, so it is easy, but beware you are selling your soul in return!

Very, very boring class. I enjoyed writing the essays, but I don't feel like I got much out of the class. We never read a novel, and never really went in depth to any material. I was disappointed with this class.

I was shocked to see that not everyone liked him. Dr. Soto is one of the best professors at Trinity. He focuses on areas of literature that are neglected, and is committed to helping students create original work. Also, the English department really needs him to help them get over their self importance. A great teacher!

Soto is a cool guy. BUT, if you want to stab yourself with a pencil and spend the worst 70 minutes of your life twice a week, then take this class. Soto did not teach me anything insightful about English or writing. I cannot believe I pay for this garbage. Avoid at all costs!

I had Soto for WW and AmLit. WW had less reading, more essays. Amlit had more reading, less essays, and was more interesting. Did pretty well in both, but I think he graded harder in WW.

Relies too much on powerpoint and biographical info, does not attempt to explain its relevance to the text. Went to Harvard, buys into the Ivy League Bias -- bad taste as Harvard gains one the image of an education rather than genuine education. He should not be teaching at Trinity with great profs like Salomon, Middleton, Aarons, Coltharp, etc.

I have had Soto for a couple of classes and I love his teaching style---he doesnt stand in front of class to lecture the whole time---its a lot of class discussion which is cool---I got an A in both of his classes (Intro to AFAM and African American Lit)If you're an Eng. Major, I recommend him
