Dr. Field is really awesome at what he does. Especially as an intro Chinese professor he puts a lot of effort into making sure students really understand what they're studying, instead of advocating the blind memorization trap that is easy to fall into with a lot of modern languages.

Dr. Field is the best in what he does, and having him for your first semester at Trinity is honestly a blessing. I could not have asked for a better professor for this section.

Dr. Field gives such good feedback, but only if you go to him outside of the classroom. He is very rational and understands struggles students go through. Go to office hours and spend some time talking with him and let him get to know you! It'll be worth it!

Cool guy. Has years of experience under his belt; As a teacher he's more than a solid choice to teach you Chinese but it is SO, SO HARD. Be prepared to be studying every single night, stressing hard and struggling, especially if languages don't come to you naturally. Quiz every single week (sometimes two), homework is difficult.

Dr. Field is one of the best professors ever. Chinese was obviously a hard class since but Dr. Field made sure to explain everything clearly and was always clarifying any question people had. He is so nice and funny and really cares about his students.

The class is tough, because you're learning Chinese. Dr. Field is absolutely phenomenal, though. He's incredibly smart, kind, funny, and will help you at every turn as long as you're willing to do the work. You will have lots of homework, but you will learn so much.

Love Prof Field!! He may be white but I wouldn't have wanted any other professor for my first year of Chinese. He doesn't use a real textbook really, he sort of made his own, but he sticks to it very strictly. Love him. Take him!!

Don't let the other reviews fool you into taking this class(like the did me); chinese is easily the hardest language you could try to learn. BUT Dr. Field is probably the best you can ask for. He is extremely helpful and well organized and great at teaching. Only take if you have an extremely good work ethic. No work goes wasted.

I loved Dr. Field's Chinese class because he was organized, clear, and an engaging professor. My favorite moments in the class are those where he explained the meaning of the characters. He knows how the English mind works and is therefore able to teach Chinese grammar very well.

Dr. Field is an incredible professor, in fact, I would say he's the best I've had. He understands the English speaking brain so he can make you understand complex Chinese grammar rules very easily. He wrote his own textbook/workbook for the class and everything is incredibly structured. It isn't easy, but it doesn't need to be. Amazing class.

Awesome! I loved this class. Granted, it was work, but I learned more Chinese in one semester than I did Spanish in three years. Amazing teaching style and he is very likeable.
