Mike is such a great professor. Ceramics is by no means a blow off class and even though this class doesn't require studying, it requires just as much time outside of class as any other class would to practice. There is HW. Mike is always willing to help. Sometimes he is sarcastic and brutally honest, but he only wants you to produce the best work.

Mike is hands-down one of the best professors at Elon! If you have any interest in ceramics, take his classes! As with all art classes, you should expect to be in the studio outside of class and challenge yourself. You get out what you put in and Mike is always responsive to requests for help/assistance.

I had Mr. Sanford for ceramics and it was AWFUL. He expected my work to be perfect and come in for so much extra studio time when I am in no way an artist and was taking a beginners ceramics class. Never has time to help and the class is so boring.

Expects you to do so much extra work and be there on the weekends, though he never states this in the syllabus. Thinks everyone should be amazing at ceramics.

I've been out of Mike's class for 10 years and still think about what I learned there. He won't hand out an A, you do have to work (it's called responsibility). His challenges were just what I needed to produce my best work. Because of that, I decided to continue and I found the extra time required to be good for my mental health.

He is very unclear and expects students to spend a rediculous amount of time on all projects. This class made me decide not to minor in art. I just found it very uninspiring and disappointing.

The class is great, but it's not easy. Mike makes sure that you understand everything that is happening. Be prepared to spend time outside of class in the studio and make sure you take risks with your work.

Mike is a great professor. Tells you where you need to improve and what he likes. Very challenging, but worth it in the end. Not difficult to get an A...just have to work a little harder for it. Great professor!

Mike is one of the most helpful, most understanding profesors at Elon. He will also push you hard to develop skills, which everyone hates at the time, but you'll realize in hindsight how lucky you were to have him as a professor.
