Miriam is so wonderful. She truly cares about her students and wants to see them succeed. She assigns interesting assignments as well, varying from photo analyses to writing our own Haggadah commentary to presentations on Modern Judaism.

I started out disliking the class, but I came to appreciate both it and Professor Dean-Otting. At times it felt like her grading was a bit ambiguous/biased, but she really cares about the topic and her students and wants to help them succeed. Her office hours are great: she is very intelligent, kind, and has a lot of fascinating stories.

I cannot recommend Miriam enough. Best professor I've had, no doubt! Her lectures are absolutely insightful and engaging--her passion definitely shows. She clearly cares deeply about her students, and is more than willing to help. Her course convinced me to change majors. Take her class. You won't regret it.

Her term quizzes are bogus, you can study for hours and still get a C because the information you have to memorize is ambiguous. Since this is religious studies you would think that writing could have many directions. In reality, you write to a broad topic with a correct answer or get a B- or lower regardless of your vocabulary and organization.

Miriam is interesting: she is intelligent, yet only entertains ideas that she agrees with. I wish she would humor my ideas a little more- if she doesn't like what you have to say she pretty much ignores it. But, she picks EXCELLENT readings that are so intriguing, and she organizes her course very well. She also values student participation!

Unhelpful and judgmental. Curriculum okay although I took a comprative religion class in high school that was more interesting. I too had the experience of visiting during office hours and being treated like she was doing me a favor by even entertaining my stupid, silly, sophomoric questions on how to write the type of paper she was looking for.

Miriam is the most welcoming, sweet, calm, lovely woman that I have met at Kenyon. She cares for her students deeply, and wants to personally get to you know. You see her biking around campus and immediately smile. Take her classes, every one of them. She is fair and loves talking outside of class about what you are thinking about. I love her.

Amazing Professor! She knows her material like the back of her hand, and is still always open to new perspectives from students. Challenges you to really think about the material. Integrates contempory material (such as poetry, music, and news articles ) with texts. Just a fantastic professor!
