This class is an easy A and you definitely learn a lot about music as well as other forms of art. make sure you go to the events, they arent bad and usually end early enough you can still go out after. The only test is the final and there are a lot of papers but they're really easy and they always allow you to fix any corrections. Take it!

Miriam is the absolute best teacher in the world. You never actually have to read, she's wicked nice, brings you food from Henion's and makes it so that you can not fail. She's the nicest teacher at UMass.

Comment:

I loved Miriam Jenkins. Her class made me legitimately interested in Classical music. The class was the easiest A I can ever hope to experience. The class is virtually no work. Tests allow the use of an 8.5/11 piece of paper. Spend an hour on it copying the book, and it's impossible to score under a 100. Offers crazy amounts of extra credit.

Her class sucks up your time; why should a person who is not MUSIC major should put most time in this class? She lets you go to concert at least 3 times, and let you write TONES of concert report and essays, and those will fill up your schedule every week and you will have no time to do your homework, readings, or research for your own stuff.

Super easy class. You need to read some of the book to do well on tests, but you don't have to bring it to class. Homework is minimal. Mirriam is a really sweet lady and offers extra credit left and right. Overall, a fun and easy gen ed.

Comment:

Miriam is one of the most amazing professors I've had. I have little interest in music, and yet she found a way to make this class interesting for me. She is one of the first professors I've had who has cared about he students doing well. Take a class with her before she leaves UMass, you wont regret it!

Class is a joke. Wicked easy. Didnt really read the book. Miriam is awesome though. really sweet lady and smart but expects you to read/write music. she will bend due dates and push things back to help you and you can get extra credit for just about anything. fun class for easy credits and good times with friends

this class is ridiculous. miriam is super nice but crazy in the mind. if attendance wasn't mandatory i'd never go because you dont learn ANYTHING while there. get more out of reading the book. she expects you to be able to read music & diagram which is pretty hard, but you can get by with all the extra credit haha, take w/ friends & laugh thru it

She's a nice woman, if you can't read music, the first half of the class will be difficult, but she makes the classes difficulty adapt to the students, and she is very nice. and Fridays she brings in cake and stuff. Take this class with a couple friends and you will enjoy it. I still can't read music and I got an A-. Also take honors, its worth it.

Miriam is honestly one of the kindest professors I have ever had. She's really fun, wants every student to do well, and will go out of her way to help you. The class is pretty easy, but you'll learn a lot if you make the effort. Lastly, she brings delicious cakes on most Fridays.

Anyone who takes this,I recommend that you have a big interest in classical music, and that includes breaking down compositions in terms of dynamics, texture, form, etc. Also prepare to whip out some cash for attending concerts on campus because you'll have to write a few reports on them. Highly recommend this to students interested in music.
