OK, Mitch is notoriously late.He's also knowledgeable, practical, and very helpful. See him in his office, ask questions. Very approachable, willing to help. Material is not easy, not Mitch's fault. Grading is very fair and thorough, one reason why it can be late. No nonsense guy, very quick mind, detects BS immediately.

Comment:

Systems Security and Administration class was on the teacher's back burner for the entire semester. It started off promising, but halfway through the semester we stopped doing work. Homework was configuring Linux boxes, and tests were the same but to a further degree. Prepare to spend hours upon hours of your life in the IA Lab.

worst prof i've had at UAF Comes in 15 min late--spends even more time setting up the slideshow. "Lectures" don't start until 20-30 min late. VERY BORING--reads slides that come with the book and tries to figure out what they say DURING class. Too lazy to grade tests in reasonable time. has no clue

Wasted more than 200 minutes of class time by being late, writes tests right before they are given which cover things he's never taught, doesn't grade them for weeks, told us he wants his test grades to average a 50%, skis right before class, monotone, terrible powerpoint slides, homework isn't bad.

So reliably late that no one shows up for class until after it starts. Reads off slides in a monotone bass voice. Goes over nothing outside the book. If you can learn from books, you don't need to actually go to his class.

Lectures directly from web accessible notes with no inflection; drink LOTS of coffee before class. Nice guy, knows his stuff. Hard exams. Expects students to find references for non-textbook HW problems (internet, library, whatever). You're on your own!

Slow class pace
