She is a very caring, kind professor. Her lectures are also of high quality and she explains all the material well. However, this class (FFYS: Politics of the Veil) has had me do the most writing in the shortest span of time in my entire life. 3-4 page essays are due every other week. She gives mostly helpful feedback, but is a very hard grader.

Professor Al-Qattan is a great, but she's the toughest essay grader I've ever had. She really knows her stuff and you don't use a textbook for her Modern Middle East class so you MUST go to lectures. 2 novel based essays, 3 movie reviews, a midterm and a final. Class was very interesting and I would take it again with her.

Had her for Women and Minorities of the Middle East. Let me tell ya, that class was one of the hardest classes I've taken (I'm only a first year though), but she is one of my favorite professors by far. She made me learn so much! Just go into office hours, participate and show her you're working hard and she'll be easier on you!

Professor al-Qattan is one of the best professors I've had at LMU. She is brilliant in her field and wants her students to succeed. No homework except for monthly 3 page papers on novels assigned. Very easy and extremely interesting. She gives study guides for quizzes & the final and opportunities for extra credit too. Highly recommend!!

Professor Al-Qattan is such a sweet person. She really is passionate about what she teaches and she wants to help you learn. We sat in a circle and talked every class and it really gave us a chance to talk about our opinions on what we were learning and how it relates to current events. She is SO smart and so inspiring.

Professor Al-Qattan is very kind and wants her students to benefit from their assignments. She cares a lot about students well being and understands this is not their only class. Always there to help and wants students to come to office hours even if its just to chat. The content is EXTREMELY interesting.

Al-Qattan was honestly my favorite professor my first semester of college. She's a very nice teacher and really knows her stuff. Her Politics of the Veil class removed a lot of misinformation I had about Islam. Don't take if English isn't your first language and have a little experience writing. But she really does help if you need it.

She wears a very consistent outfit. Anyways, have to read to write papers. One journal every week. No tests no quizzes just writing. Class is boring but somehow I never fell asleep. We sit around in a circle and we are pressured to talk. However, she is a nice person, would help, and give good feedback.

Professor Najwa Al-Qattan is honestly the best professor I ever had. She is funny, passionate and knows her stuff. Believe it or not she made learning history fun. There is 1 midterm and 1 final but she will give you a great study guide which helps a lot. 2 papers and she gives you 5 options of extra credit.

Nice lady, but she seriously should not be teaching a lower division course much less a core course. History of the Middle East is hands down the toughest core course at LMU. Only take if you have previous background and interest in the subject, not just to fulfill the core. This course is quite a painful experience.

Tough grader and not very clear on what she wants on assignments. Make sure to take note of everything she says during lectures even if they're not on the powerpoint because that's what she tests you on. Sometimes I can't understand what she's saying because at the end of her sentences she mumbles and gets really quiet and it gets quite annoying.

This was not a great class. You have to take down everything she says, not just what is on her powerpoints. She is a very tough grader. She is also very little help and will not give you the answers to the midterm/final even prior to the test. If you dont know the answer, she will not give it to you.

Nice professor, always available during office hours and for extra help. Pretty tough grader and expects a lot out of students. When taking class notes, take notes on what she actually says, not just what's on the slide. She speaks more about topics than she puts on the board.

One of the most informative classes I have ever taken. Dr. Al-Qattan is extremely knowledgeable and clear. Tests are fair as long as you take detailed notes and read. You will NOT get bored in this class. However, if you are not a strong writer, you may find her grading on homework very nit-picky. It is only because she wants students to succeed!

She's really friendly and helpful, clearly wants students to succeed. She offers plenty of extra credit options, as well. Only take this class if you don't mind a lot of text book reading and essay writing. Also, her class is all lecture, so only take her class if you have a genuine interest in the Middle East or History, or else you may get bored.
