Avoid Kharma! Doesn't explain well at all and his midterms and finals are not at all what you study in your notes. Basically, for the midterm, he took questions from the book and the final forget about it most people don't pass the final bc he made it so hard. You have to study everything on your own and do research on internet to pass his class

Dr. Kharma is a MUST take if you're thirsty for programming. Takes difficult material and makes it easy to digest. He cares a ton. If you want to learn, IGNORE the bad reviews. It's not an easy A, but what you learn in his classes is what you'll get tested on at a Google interview ;)

I just warn engineers not to take this course, because participants are a mix of undergrad biologists and engineers, then course materials mostly about biology. there is any sign of engineering. in exams you should analyze changing parameters and its effect on the problem. so don't take it without background or goal! interest isn't enough!

His explanations are often clear, but boring to listen to. The midterm and final will frustrate you if you are a good coder (focuses only on memorization with no logical questions). He can be lazy at times (took 4 weeks to correct multiple choice midterms). The final project was interesting and will be useful cv building if you do well in it.

He was one of the most interesting professors I've ever had! I loved every second of synthetic bio. Learned basic logic gate and coding material,look up stuff online to help you learn too, and for the midterm and final exam, really know the articles he talks about in class! He's super fair and always excited to help during office hours. Loved it!

CRYSTAL CLEAR lectures. Stops frequently to summarize and answer questions. If you put the slightest bit of work in, he is a GREAT prof. Hard to get a hold of out of class, but if you do manage, he's very helpful. Can answer questions with breadth, depth, and clarity that few others are capable of.
