Dr. Cantu is very nice-but being nice doesn't make her a great professor. She was "out of town" for the 1st week. My class has spent at least 3 weeks (only meet once/week) at speaker events that SHE promised to attend. She is very vague about the details/guidelines for projects, and failed to give the class guidelines for a few weeks. AVOID HER.

Take this professor! This class was highly enjoyable. (You probably will have a few guest speakers if you are taking Mex Am. Lit.) Read as much as you can and be sure to turn in all papers in on time.

WOW...Shes a great professor. I'm shocked by the comments. I would def. recommend her just do your work. Proof read papers and make sure all lines are dotted before turning in. You should have no problem.

She will make you buy her book for her class and will push a globalist border free agenda on you. Her topic is vague but she expects a lot on tests. Learn Spanish before taking class. She singled me out for my religious background, calling me out in front of the class. She is offensive and opinionated with her comments. Don't recommend at all.

Dr. Cantu is a horrible professor. She does not give you back your papers until the last day of class and she is very rude with her comments. You literally feel as though you are flying blind. I do not recommend her. She is not interested in her students. She claims she does not receive assignments through e-mail when she is the one demanding e-mai

Interesting class. Professor was...3.4 out of 10...scattered and unorganized. If you have a heavy load choose a different class. Work is fine-bit time consuming but not difficult. She made the syllabus as class went on so nothing was certain. Guarantee C+ or B- (she does not give out 100's). Good luck if this is a required class.

She made us buy the novel that SHE wrote in an Intro to Lit class! Then we were supposed review it. She's going to go Platinum just on her classes alone. Easy class though.

Great professor and a great class. Learned much from a really interesting professor. Good class, but it's crucial to attend. Lots of writing and some reading, but as long as you do what's required you'll get by. This professor really cares about her students. I really recommend this professor!

Awesome lady. Super inspiring. Her class isn't that hard if you do the work she assigns. Usually gives breaks for her long classes. The material was interesting and I learned a lot from the class. Take her if you have the chance! :)

Ms Cantu was an inspiration to me in and out of the classroom. Her passion for the written word regardless of the genre of Literature was truly helped in understanding what the author was saying.

The writing assignments are manageable, but she is not clear on the directions. It was a challenging and enjoyable class. The course description failed to mention the play we performed at the end of the semester. She is one of the best professors at UTSA. Take this class only if you have time to devote to it.

Was one of the worst professors, gives assignment guidelines at the last minute, sometimes the night before due. Acts like we are supposed to know everything even w/o guidelines. Says she will post things on WebCT but forgets to. Readings are good and grading is ok, she also has guest speakers which is great but end up interrupting class syllabus

If you don't do well in this class, it is because you are an idiot who doesn't take the time to pay attention or read the books. She gives equal time to each ethnic study (not just Chicano) and talks about how they relate to each other.Every test has an essay question.Smaller one-page essays due every once and awhile. She isn't difficult at all.

I disagree with a lot that is said about Dr Cantu...she is a wonderful person, and is willing to help if you participate in class and act like you care about being there...she is a little off sometimes on the material being tested, (she asks the smallest unimportant things-dates) but overall she is a good teacher Take her if you like to read a lot

Very airy and flaky, unclear on a lot of things. The class is MultiEthnic Lit, but she really focuses on Chicano/Chicana more than anything. She does pick interesting books, and you have to read alot obviously. Tests are moderatly easy, always long essay questions w/ multiple choice. Pretty easy class overall, but could use a better teacher.

It was a hard class, yes most of it Mexican-American Lit books, but I liked that because I am of Mexican decent, others may not like that. Too much reading though, and lots lots of writing. Make sure you read, and make sure you know and have good grammatical writing skills, as she is nit picky on that. I presented in the Conference they hold for the department, and she told me in a sarcastic way "What are you doing here?", I said presenting my essay and she said, OH in another sarcastic way.

Yeah. Unfortunately, you have to read a lot and write too! Can you imagine? A college English course that makes you use your brain so much? I agree with all the complaints made here. I didn't realize you had to work for your education.

Awful! One of the worse profs in the dept. This course was supposed to be intro to lit.crit; yet, little emphasis on, or reinforcement of, the various approaches in lit.crit. Forces Chicano/a lit. agenda on students. Flakey and unorganized. Even lost students' tests and papers! More interested in her own "artistic" endeavors than in teaching.
