An excellent prof, his class is what convinced to major in PoliSci. And he was stellar about writing references and giving advice years later. On eof my favourite profs from undergrad, a really interesting class, definitely had to work for your mark, but it was worth it.

why are ppl complaining about his "um"s so much, it gave you the needed time to write down your notes as he only lectured orally. I suspect those who found his class boring weren't paying attention to what was being said; I admit he was a bit monotone, but I found the class was more interesting than I thought it would be, and he was helpful

One of the best teachers in the Political Science Department. Marks fair, makes very clear points, approachable and chooses interesting articles for you to read. You will learn a lot. For those who criticise his "UM's"... I'm sure you have bad habits, too.

Marantz is a good guy. He lectures old school style but his lectures can be interesting (although wireless internet helps cure the boredom at times). Really good readings though and interesting material. he knows his stuff. 2 long essays kind of suck and in order to do well make sure you have EVIDENCE!!! Overall, a good course

Marantz is a great guy, but his lectures are greatly boring. I like the innovative course readings, although there are a lot of them. A worthwhile class as long as the 'ummm' and the 'on one hand... on the other hand...' doesn't drive you nuts.

Umm...ummm... Umm... UMM. There. You have just taken Poli 362 ! Okay, yes, Dr. Marantz is the Head of the Dept... but he couldn't lecture his way out of a paper bag! The 'umm' thing will drive you insane, if the huge ammount of reading doesn't.

Nice enough guy, but perhaps the worst lecturer ever. Class was brutal to sit through, adds little other than to show you what his views are on U.S. foreign policy (which you'll need to know to write to his taste) The readings are generally good tho. If he says 'um' one more time someone will get hu

actually said umm 37 times in 5 minutes. Talks more about what makes a good argument than actually teaching anything. Also, he will take your GPA, pour gas over it, and burn your scholarship to hell.

He isn't a very good lecturer... says umm a lot but you get used to it. He teaches a lot about what constitutes a good debate (which a lot of people aren't aware of). Good prof. reminded me of Norman Rockwell paintings.

While Dr. Marantz is obviously very knowledgable abou the subject he teaches, he does not present the material in an interesting way and is a tough marker. It could be a much better course.
