Horrible is all I can say. His teaching style is extremely difficult to follow. Plus he goes on wierd, irrelevant tangents. He cancels class with extremely bad notice...ie 5 minutes after class has already started. He does provide good entertainment though with his quirky habits. But I learned absolutey nothing in his class.

I gave Prof Wood a fair chance and defended him a lot when people were saying "this isnt conservation" but all grades were incredibly late and even now we haven't received our final grades! He got a guest lecturer in for 2 weeks and didn't turn up to lectures. He doesn't ever stick to a point. :-(

Did not like his teaching at all. The course lacks direction and did not inspire anything from me. Found him to be boring and the course could have been so much better.

This professor is amazing! The best I have ever had. His classes are like a conversation, not just more powerpoint slides. I am so glad I chose to take this course. All I can say about the whiny comments below is that some don't appreciate excellent teaching when they see it. I recommend this course to anyone interested in sustaining nature.

Really did not like this professor. He was rather rude when I went for help in his office and in emails. I emailed this guy asking for clarification on his guidelines for assignment, and he replied with, "This [question] is weird" and then proceeds to answer my question. WTF?!

Paul wood seems to be an egotistical man who is mmore interested in teaching his own subjective viewpoints than factual material. Almost daily, students were coming into class with things they had found in readings that contradicted what he'd said. If you do not cater to his expectations of what the world should be, you will be severly penalized.

This guy is the most unhelpful person who is mostly lost in his own logic. One thought fits all with him. Shameles self promotion!

This man is hot! I can't wait to get to each class. If you have a chance, take his class. The essays are challenging but they really make you think.

Comment:
excellent lecturer, facilitates discussions very well and is open to critical thinking. however, his marking scheme is RIDICULOUS. "essays," marked by 4th year english majors, are at max 2 pgs long, with specific requirements that beg little in the way of actual analysis or comprehension on the student's part. very frustrating if you aren't a robot

i really don't like this prof's style of teaching, i think the assignments are good, but the lecture "discussions" are frustrating, and some of the information he gives (particularly on human evolution...um, supervolcano???) is down right incorrect. maybe he should read up on the stuff before he teaches it to a class full of students.

i think he's a bit full of himself-like what he thinks is the end all and be all. class discussions drag on way too long. too much philosophy, not enough application

i m surprised at a lot of the comments on here. he s smart enough and admittedly a swell guy- but come on, his class sucks. he entertains the most ridiculous comments from class, takes days to make simple points, and grades midterms blindly looking for the best copies of his suspect logic.

Absolutely one of the best teachers that UBC has. Very engaging style of teaching this guy doesn't talk at you, he *teaches*, you'll walk out really understanding the material (even if it's dry). His earnestness and devotion to the issues is inspiring.
