The class was mildly entertaining, but I never knew for sure what the homework was, when things were due, what the expectations were, etc. It was very disorganized in that sense. Grading is a little bit random.

Professor Bird is awesome! She's real spunky and is nice (and brings treats to class). She grades pretty hard on your papers, but she gives you as much help as you need to make them better. I probably had her read my papers 3 or 4 times before I turned it in. She even will help you over the phone. She's very understanding and relaxed. She's great!

Penny is hysterical. She can be a little frazzled sometimes but she is seriously the best.

Penny is boisterous, funny, and engaging. A wonderfully delightful person, a frustrating professor. If you are willing to put up with her unorganized teaching and thrown in assignments, then you can learn a lot and become a better writer. She will always meet with you to help improve your writing. But beware...this class is all over the place.

Sister Bird is a great person and gave spiritual lectures, but her class was very disorganized. The tests came out of the blue. Very little of what was covered in class was on the tests.

Loved her as person, but horrible as a professor. Only about 20% of the assignments are on the syllabus. The rest she adds at her whim. The class was very unorganized. Her tests were very hard, but she will work with the students to get them higher.

Comment:
Yeah, not that great. Definitely agree with the feminism: it isn't too oppressive, but there were times that I couldn't express a differing opinion without risking sounding chauvinist. Grading really isn't very fair on homework. It probably isn't fair on tests either, but if it were you would get a lower grade.

Penny is a fun, funny teacher who wants you to do well. She will work with you to make sure you learn something from her course. Loved Austen prior but she does beat Persuasion to death. Expect to work hard but you will become a better writer from her. Not a lot of busy work.

I took the second half of doctrine and covenants from her. It was good. Kind of boring sometimes. Just study the study guide religiously and you'll do well on the tests. Oh and take notes on things she stresses- they're always on the tests.

She killed my excitement for the class. Our grade was based on 2 papers that had to be written on Persuasion by Jane Austen. Killed the book. Her guidelines and due dates are completely obscure-- says one thing in class and something else on her handouts. Impossible to get a hold of. She'll rip apart your paper without suggestions to improve. Ew.

Penny is a crazy crazy lady! She is a little flaky and over-the-top boisterous and dramatic about almost everything, but she is very kind and very helpful. Honestly, her class will work you and force you to analyze and critique your own writing, but she's always willing to work with you, and is one smart cookie.

If you really want to learn how to write, take her class. She will be BRUTALLY honest with you. She does teach feminist views but is always open to any topic that you want to write about. It was a hard class, but I learned a lot.

Professor Bird is the nicest lady in the whole wide world. But she taught in generalities and tested on specifics, making it very difficult to get a good score on anything. Taught mainly feminist views in a supposedly balanced literary criticism class. Wonderful lady. Terrible class.
