Scotto is EVIL EVIl EVIL! I dropped out of his class months ago and still cringe whenever I see him around campus. He gives me the nastiest looks, but he is the one who is extremely rude and frequently snaps at his class. His office is really messy and he is a very disorganized professor. He's like a grumpy old grandfather you don't want to see :(

Incredibly kind and understanding. Participation matters a lot, but if you are shy or have social anxiety, don't worry! He is very accommodating and will have you participate in another way that works with you. I thoroughly enjoy his class because he is passionate about what he teaches. Also a great person!

Comment:
Scotto is a very spontaneous professor. The syllabus doesn't have any assignments. He'll just make them up as he goes along. Be prepared to attend mandatory events outside of class. He also frequently cuts students off when they are speaking. Sometimes he'll randomly walk behind students. Personally, I didn't like his style so I dropped the class.

The biggest Russophile ever. Fascinating glimpse into 19th century imperial Russian culture. A drawback--he truncates people's comments in class to insert his own take, and this borders on mansplaining.

Peter Scotto is a great professor and all around human being. I have now taken 2 classes and an independent study with him and hope to do more. He can be a little disorganized but you get so much more out of a class with him than just knowing the literature you read. You get more out of it if you actively participate in class and really engage.

Professor Scotto is a lovely professor and human being. He cares about his students and wants to hear their ideas. I don't know if I've had a professor that loves his/her subject so much. Additionally, he really knows his material (beyond just the literature as well!). I only wish that we had more than one paper. Otherwise, he is wonderful!

Hilarious, engaging, kind. Scotto made Russian Lit (a dreary subject) very interesting. He is extremely passionate about his work, and it is very clear in his class. He is willing to talk to you, and discusses topics in a way that helps you decipher your own thoughts. Midterm and a final, both oral conversations with him. Easy if you pay attention.

Best prof I've had. He makes lecture engaging, he is always in a good mood. If you come ask him for help outside of class, he is willing to bend over backwards to make you understand. I've taken 2 classes with him, each were enjoyable experiences. No exams, just 2 presentations. Def a GPA booster and a stress reliever if you love to read.

Scotto lost my papers twice but gave me great grades on both of them. He doesn't expect much of his firsties and grades us just as hard as the rest but I rocked the class because as long as you do the reading and pay attention to what he thinks is important about each of the texts then you're set for an A. Introduced me to Eugene Onegin which rocks

Terrible. Avoid if possible. Completely disorganized, yells at students when they do not present his ideas back to him (and yet he cannot follow the simplest texts), picks favorites among the beautiful (who do not have to work--several spent the few classes they attended shopping online), and will not show any professional or personal courtesy.

An excellent lecturer! And very funny too! I often left his class amazed at the depth of what we had covered. Be prepared to talk in his class, but it's no big deal if you don't. My only gripe with him is how he grades essays: he hands them back late and his comments aren't very clear. Still everyone else in my class (including me) loved him.

Like the absent minded professor. Not very organized, but he has so much knowledge. Could be very helpful when approached, but also sometimes just builds on confusion and disorder of class.
