Comment:
If you can take another professor. He talks so fast and if you have any problems he's totally able and willing to help you in his way and it doesn't really help you.

Comment:
Philip is a nice guy, but a very fast speaker. If you ask questions he is more than happy to answer them. The key to success in his class is doing the homework assigned from the prior lecture before class and ask questions on them as lectures are a bit hard to follow. Midterms are directly from notes/text homework.

Phil is a nice guy, but really stressful and confusing to learn from. It's like he gets panicked in front of the class, can't follow the examples himself, takes forever to explain simple concepts but then just whips through the actual math part of things way too fast. When asked for help/clarification - "Just know the midterms!"

Phil is a good guy and I think he is very intelligent; however, he does get lost sometimes. This was an intro course and I think for students that are not strong in this subject Phil is not a great prof, as he can be very confusing. His tests were straight forward though. I think he is more cut out for teaching those who do not struggle with math.

Besides using handouts and overheads to teach the last few weeks of the course, the class was very easy to follow along, and tests were very fair. Didn't even buy the textbook.

Comment:
Pace of the class very plodding. Spends way too long reviewing basic concepts, and sometimes gets confused by the basics himself. <1/4pg new material today. I like math and am interested in stats but this is boring. Labs must be done in person despite taking 10 minutes, because he doesn't want to lose the lab spot. Great guy but not a great prof.

Great guy! His notes are very useful as long as you don't get distracted by the useless derivations of the equations. Textbook is not necessary, all his tests are comprised of questions worded like his notes which are very different than those in the text. I didn't open my text once and finished with a very high mark.

Knows his stuff and gives good tips on how to study math. As I recall he said, "if you can go home and explain this stuff to your grandma then you know you've got it." Nice guy. Fair tests and grading scheme. Does throw the odd curveball question but the challenge is beneficial.

Well meaning and knowledgable, but muddles around a lot with useless derivations, etc... Makes a simple subgect more comlicated than it is. Messy writing and tangents make note taking challenging. He does tell you what you need to know for tests, reviews a lot and his tests are easy and marked kindly. I would avoid him for calculus!

Comment:
He is disorganized and cannot explain concepts in a way that students understand. It is left to the students to find a way to have the concepts explained out side of class. He has no notes and guesses when doing examples. It is very frustrating to learn from him.

Had him for both Math 211 and both semesters of calculus. He's a great professor, although he can get lost sometimes. Tests are fairly easy. There are no surprises on tests; he tells you what you need to know. Can't wait to take Biometrics with him this upcoming spring.
