Comment:

Economics is already extremely dry. Raimo is old, boring, and teaches Economics. You will be bored to tears and will likely not learn anything useful. ECON320 is more useful than this course, ECON486, as far as applicable knowledge is concerned.

Comment:

Economics is a dry subject, so he makes it as interesting as possible. Lectures are long, but attendance makes passing easy. A lot of studying from the textbook required to do well on exams, can't just go by his lectures. Very helpful when asked questions during office hours.

Comment:

Nice guy, but as a teacher he falls a bit short. Often lectures about things not relevant to the course. Most questions will be from the text, so I rarely felt the need to take notes in class. Tests are tough, but reasonable if you study enough. In the end, he's an average prof. Not good, but not bad. Wouldn't take another of his classes though.

Raimo is very nice, and helpful. He is very positive. The content of this course felt more like social studies than economics. Not hard, but not that useful. If you are shooting to for an A+ don't take this class, his exams are very unpredictable, but it's an easy B for sure.

Extremely laid back and friendly! I like his lectures, although sometimes he carries on with certain things that don't seem relevant. All in all however, I really enjoyed his class and encourage others to take classes taught by him!

Raimo Marttala is probably my favourite professor at VIU! While he tends to struggle with technology, he is always able to answer students' questions and usually has a long, wandering take to go along with every topic. Raimo is also super helpful if you ever need special attention :)

He's THE guy! His tests are really hard, but he's very helpful with it and make sure his students understand completely, so it is forgiven. He wll help you even though it's not his office hours. He's the most gentle person i ever met, always smiling and laughing. Take his course as much as possible, you won't regret it!

I love Raimo, he's a great teacher and I swear he's in his office 24/7, and always willing to help you out with whatever you're struggling with. Sometimes he goes off on a tangent in class and doesn't talk about relevant things about the chapter, but he's still a good teacher.

He's okay, but I disagree with the other comments about difficulty. His tests require a lot of memorization rather than understanding of concepts and some of his arguments are biased and incorrect, the WTO, NAFTA, slave labour, etc.

He is the best teacher with very good personality. Having trouble with assignment, go for help to him. He is very helpful. Take his class and you won't regret. ^_^
