His bell curves on exams look like an upside down bell where most people are on the extremes. Didn't show up for class the last day on 11th week. Take good notes otherwise GOOD LUCK!

DS1. Extremely hard grader, most of the class had an F post midterms. Allows you to retake the two big exams which makes the class passable. Hard to follow due to using theoretical problems.

Comment:
Prof Chandran isn't the worst professor I've ever taken, but he is very difficult to follow at times. Almost all of the examples he does are theoretical so it can be very difficult to understand the process of the problems. It's possible to do well, however it is difficult

This class is HARD! Professor Chandran expects a lot out of his students. He's a tough grader but the material is manageable if you pay attention in class, ask questions and do all the homework provided. The lab is a real pain if you don't love MATLAB...

Tests (competencies) are typically long in the tooth. First and third parts will take you every bit of two hours each. Clear and easy to understand despite his accent. Easy to talk to and get help from. Gives you all you need. Practice homework/problems in your free time, and you'll be fine. Methods are difficult, but doable.

Comment:
DS-2 is one of those classes that is going to be difficult no matter what. However, the grading on all of the compentency exams is brutal. Chandran recently changed the structure of all of the tests such that they are no longer multiple choice. The comps are non-cribable, and don't count on the practice exams as a proper/thorough study guide.

It's DS2 baby! It's going to be hard, and it's going to make you learn. Chandran did a good job at teaching. The Comp system is probably the best grading system I've ever come across. It allows you to focus on areas you messed up and redo those exams we all have where we just make stupid little mistakes. Homework takes a while, but it's ds2.

Chandran's competency system is probably one of the most forgiving grading systems at Kettering. He isn't very good at teaching, but with at least two opportunities for each exam, it isn't hard to learn from the test.

Needs to work on his pacing, we covered comps 3&4 the day before the test and then 5&6 the day before the final, he enjoys teaching and is trying but he's just not clear on what he wants. Go see him in his office and he'll explain much better. He doesn't assign enough hw for practice and says pick problems out of Barak's useless POC he calls a book

Class will be confusing if you have him and Lundstrom as they rotate among each other. He knows the material real well, does not follow any notes. Makes tricky exams and comes up with new problems. Cribs might be of 60% help if he makes the paper. Study at least a week in advance for exams. Do well in competencies to not take the final.

Comment:
This class varies from day to day. Some days you will get Lundstrom and other days Chandran. Chandran's competencies always have some sort of trick that hasn't been covered in class. Class is pointless and just another way for Kettering to charge an extra 3 grand to graduate.

He should consider changing professions, he would be a great instructor if he worked a GITMO torturing inmates, he has no integrity and his personal views supersede policy and procedure and he has no accountability, avoid him at all cost unless your good at teaching yourself, DS2 can be self taught.

Obviously knows his stuff and has a system of competencies that allow retaking of the first several portions but his communications skills and accent make learning something that requires concentration. Go to EVERY class and do ALL the homework if you want a good grade.

Held final exam when the school was officially closed because of a snow storm, going against university policy. Tells some great stories, otherwise I don't understand why he's allowed to teach.

He's an okay professor, but that says a lot for such a horrible class. He can be very unclear at times on assignments. The class really went downhill toward the end. The final project was absurd. It was assigned too late in the term and we were not taught the necessary knowledge to complete it. If you study the homework problems you'll pass.

I was totally confused after taking DS1 with Barak, but it all made sense after one week of Chandran's class. He explains things very well, and works out many examples in class. Also, ask him about the cool control systems projects he worked on before becoming a professor.

i did horrible on both tests, pretty bad on the quizzes (0 on one), and i thought i was screwed. thank god we had an extra credit project and stanley wrote the multiple choice final. chandran knew he was a hard grader, so he helped us out on that. i got a mid-80 grade, and although chandran didnt help us much, he came through in the end.
