The class wasn't hard, but it was very boring. Dr. Patton is a nice guy, but all he did was talk. The class wasn't engaging. 95% of the class was on their phone or laptop while he lectured. The class was always half empty. I feel I didn't gain anything from the class. I'm just happy I got a good grade.

You can do well in this class just by paying attention to the informative, well-organized and witty lectures. Where you can really learn a lot more about the subject, if you care to, is the supplemental readings he makes available. He doesn't keep after you to read it and you can handle tests without most -- but look at them, they're good stuff.

I had him for a senior research seminar, so I can't say much about his regular classes. He was really good about helping me with finding a direction and sources for my paper. And when I fried my computer just before the final paper was due, he was really nice about giving me an extra couple days to rewrite it. Good guy.

Professor Patton is very passionate about teaching. He's very laid back and lectures while sitting on top of his desk. Every class was a lecture but almost all of them were extremely interesting because of how he taught. Test were short and long essays and not difficult at all. Patton is a great down to earth guy who wants you to succeed. Take him!

Lectures are interesting, will go off topic a lot. The papers aren't very hard and he puts up study guides for the tests. Books are required

You need to learn the material, but he basically gives you the questions to his tests. Not super challenging but you still learn a lot. Would recommend for history majors.

Dr. Patton is very knowledgeable about U.S. Southern and Economic/Business History. While some of the economic history towards the end of the class was done in broad brush strokes, he is very passionate about teaching. Also, Dr. Patton cares much about his students. He is a very good and precise lecturer. He is also very "down to earth" person.

Dr. Patton is a walking encyclopedia of knowledge about the south. He lectures every class period but for the most part they were interesting. Test are essay test but he gives a study guide and takes questions straight from them. Final was essay and an option to do it online. Great professor! Attendance is also not mandatory and not really needed.

Great guy. Took him as much as possible and enjoyed classes. Straight lectures everyday and videos a lot of the time also. Test were easy and most of the time take home. Understands the hectic schedule of college kids so missing class wont hurt you at all. I prob went half the time. Just watching him laugh at his jokes everyday kept me interested.

I had Dr. Patton for Recent U.S. History. I really enjoyed the class. There were several little research papers to write 3-5 pages. The midterm and finals were either take home or partly take home-partly in class 50:50. Make sure to read the textbook, come to class, take notes, and participate. He was very flexible and helpful. I liked him a lot.

Easiest A I've ever gotten. Posted most assignments online along with resources to do them with. Take home midterm and final with a few 1 pg papers, very very easy. I didn't go to class at all after spring break and still made an easy A. Patton is an awesome dude

He's an incredibly nice man, but the Business History class was dull and ridiculously easy. I barely went and made an A because the tests were at-home (e-mail your answers to him), and the book summaries were completion grades. I would recommend him, but not because he's interesting.

I have had Patton for several Classes now. He is a wonderful lecturer, and extremely knowledgeable of his field. His lectures are upbeat and informative. The work is not heavy; a take home midterm and final and lengthy research paper with presentation. I would take him for every History Class if I could.

Have had him 3 classes now and would take him for every class if I could. Wonderful teacher and a great guy. Everything on the tests comes from notes or videos/movies. Usually just 2 tests, all essays and possibly a paper or two, but nothing terrible.

He takes a lot of pride in what he teaches and you can tell he wants to be there lecturing. His test are not very hard. The midterm was take-home. I would recommend him.

Though he is a little weird, he'll grow on you. First Dr. I've had that hasn't been arrogant and self-important. Knows a lot of stuff and is very interesting, but might be boring to those of you not interested in history.
