Ric is an awesome dude, nothing on his slides which makes ur attendance mandatory if u go to class u don't have to read in my experience. He gives u everything u need to succeed. He doesn't like phones in class so put it away for that hour or be like the rest of us put it on vibrate and have ur msgs sent to ur computer. no excuses

Comment:

Ric's hilarious! Super sarcastic and puts funny pictures up on his slides! Although he doesn't have anything written on the slides, you simply need to sit and listen. He basically goes over everything from the book that you'll be focusing on. He's interpretation helps understanding the material. He does take awhile to grade, but he is really busy!

I would have never imagined writing something. like this, but after having to sit through the most boring lecture of my life, I had to. Don't get me wrong, Ric is a funny guy, but his lecture slides are a mess. He also likes to call people out if he sees them on their phone or hears a notification, wouldn't recommend his class, esp at 8am.

I did not enjoy this class. It was hard to reach him outside of class and the material was all over the place. The lectures were long and boring. It was difficult to get him to look over your work after it was already marked by a TA because he does not agree that his TA's can be wrong.

I'll give him this, he's a very funny dude. But MAN does he not care. If you want an easy credit, take his course, but my god is he indifferent to the quality of education. I've taken a few of his courses, and I'm convinced he is intelligent, but he doesn't care to provide people with insights. I wonder if Brock has drained his passion to teach.

His lectures were the only reason I got up in the morning. Very interesting material and all exam questions are given before the exam. TAs mark a bit hard and if you are in Goodman and only need 1 Humanities context credit I would say maybe choose something else like FILM or there are a couple online humanities courses that don't have any exams!

Ric was incredibly enjoyable to have as a prof. He was funny, enthusiastic, and engaging. The material, however, can only be made so exciting to no fault of his own. You'll need to take notes as they're spoken; he has almost no lecture slides, fortunately the material is cut and dry for the most part.

He's really funny and personable, but he has no lecture slides and talks in circles so its really difficult to take notes. He would frequently say that if on an exam we didn't right exactly what he said word for word he would fail you. That isn't learning, that's regurgitating. Only class I've ever dropped in my life due to sheer difficulty.

He is a nice guy and always tries his best to liven up lectures. Unfortunately I was always bored out of my mind after only 15 minutes of class. What made the class difficult was the fact that there are no legitimate lecture slides. It makes it very difficult to follow along in class since he dabbles in and out of topics quite frequently.

Ric was a good prof, he always tried to be personable with his students and was always available after class to answer questions . He didnt give any rubrics for marking and didnt give much direction on essays etc so you could basically do whatever but he is a tough marker. Overall I would take his class again.

After 4 years at Brock, Ric has been one of my most memorable professors. His lectures were so well put together, they would feel like a treat to listen to. This class peaked my interest into taking other PHIL electives later on.

E-mailed him to ask questions, wasn't very helpful and was condescending. Rarely posts on Sakai and doesn't use Gradebook. Take-home exam was confusing and quite difficult. Not going to take a PHIL elective again.

Ric is phenomenal. I've had him previously for PHIL1F90, and it is because of him alone that I am now in PHIL2P99. He always cracks jokes, with his weird sense of humor and his lack of shoes.

Comment:

Good at breaking down the texts in lecture, especially the Descartes and some of the Plato when they get difficult. You have to show up to those, by the way. I did not find his essay requirements difficult as others have stated. I just wrote what was asked and basically regurgitated what I read and got 90s on both of the essays.
