I've had Richard before back in second year, and just had to find another class with him. This man, really is passionate about what he does. He is so insightful about the authors behind the books (great reads btw) and gives you everything he knows about the books themselves. Great professor, even better human being.

His lectures have NOTHING to do with what you have to learn. His lectures are about social context of fantasy-- well, they aren't. They're about how much he hates computers and millennials and his neighbours and his family and technology and strangers he sees on the streets and stuff he makes up in his head. Tests are all on SPECIFIC text details.

Assigns pop quizzes at random that feature incredibly specific questions you may not get even if you read the book. Complains about how the modern age sucks compared to his golden age. Puts not fantasy texts on a fantasy course. Loves to go on tangents. Literature of the Fantastic in the English department (third year) is a good alternative.

He'll outline problems and recommend the writing center at York to fix your writing problems. He doesn't want to help undergrads work on their writing because he feels it isn't his job. I regularly attend the writing center, he loses his train of thought often during lecture and goes on random tangents that won't help your mark. Don't take this.

Hes incredibly insightful, to the point where going to every lecture was a real joy. His class was really fantastic and I love the lectures. His way of delivery for information is also fantastic and I never lose interest.

Teleky was a pretty decent professor in my opinion, he didn't pick on any students, and he expressed some insightful and interesting views on each novel we read. Also, he brought his dog to every lecture, which was the best. The course was interesting, and i would definitely take another course within the same genre.

An interesting man to say the least. Had to read a book a week. But we only had 2 essays and a couple of tests that consisted of defining words and relating them back to a certain book. If you go to class and write the words down, and pay attention to how they relate to the specific book, you will do good. with little effort still gota decent grade

I really like how passionate about literature he was. It really got me interested in the course and inspired me. However, it's not easy. I constantly had my essays proofread by my TA, classmates, and did not get an A. Regardless, I am very happy with how much I learned here. He's a funny, passionate professor.

Great professor. Gives great feedback on assignments. Applauded creativity and discussions, and is very passionate. Some may not be mature enough for his teaching style, if you want to be coddled. But if you have an interest in writing, reading, or creativity, Richard will inspire you. Genuinely cares about students and their experience.

He is literally my favourite Professor. If you have a serious interest in fantasy fiction, and humanities, this course opens your eyes in beautiful ways. I wish he taught more classes at the moment, I'd be taking them. People give him harsh ratings because they are too immature for his classes. This is not the class to slack off in.

Great professor, helpful and inspirational. Not too sure why all the negative comments- My only conclusion is perhaps students who come straight from high school may not have the maturity to take a class by him? As far as critism goes he gives very helpful critism to your prose- should you be mature enough to handle it!

Very pretentious and opinionated. He will preach opinions and tell you yours are wrong. No constructive criticism - just criticism. Also set in his ways and will stereotype young people as useless and technology-obsessed with no idea of what is 'quality'. I would never take a class with him again.

Great course... Couldn't imagine it with any other prof. He's very entertaining and well spoken- I very much enjoyed the lectures and book selections. I have walked away from this course as a much better reader and now I enjoy reading even more...

Love and the Novel was one of the best courses I ever took. Richard mixes insightful literary analysis with his broad historical and cultural knowledge. Lots of reading - things all lit. students mean to (and really should) read - made really interesting.

It's difficult to summarize my experience of Richard Teleky without sounding slanderous or simply bitter. Yet I feel that sugar-coating the experience with polite criticism is simply disingenuous. In all honesty he was much more than the worst professor I ever had; he remains the worst person that I have ever met in my life.

he is elitist thinks many of his students are below him. tends to favour only one style of writing (a style which can be described as pretentious and predictable). students who choose not to write this way are hated by him. worst of all, he does not offer constructive criticism, choosing to make fun of students instead.

Firstly - to be blunt means to say what you feel, often using bad language. It means a person does not use euphemisms when they speak. Richard doesn't OFFER constructive criticism to improve. He believes there is only one solid way of writing and everything else is false. Patricia, Jennifer, Priscilla are better creative writing professors.

Very disrespectful and rude. He needs to stop thinking of his classes as the "Richard Teleky" show where all discussions are about Richard Teleky! This is being cocky, arrogant, self-centered and egotistical. He criticizes people for being egotistical and yet he does it himself. Criticizes people's style of writing, not the writing itself.

he is a great editor. if you have talent it will grow - if you don't he might tear you apart - so he shouldn't be teaching the intro. a different guy outside the class - visit him in his office, one on one, before you judge him to harshly.
