Comment:
A lot of people think Elrich is tough and kind of scary. He is a bit. But if you attend his lectures and take good notes, it will be okay. He's pretty explicit with what he wants you to know. Also he is totally all right to talk to in office hours but he's a bit awkward. come with questions. form study groups to break up readings!!!

Comment:
His tests are obscure, as is the material he covers. Depth psychology, Freud, childhood development- all at a graduate level. I never wish to speak ill of anyone, but he is not teaching the kinds of materials that are proper for ISF 100B, and he is highly dismissive of students and completely inflexible if you need anything. Avoid.

I found Professor Ehrlich's class fascinating. The texts were all very interesting, even if I didn't agree with them, and we got to read some good fiction in the first half of the course. Lectures can get a bit boring, but they're very comprehensive and provide wonderful analyses of the often-complicated texts.

When I signed up for this class I thought the subject of self deception would be really interesting, but prof Ehrlich really killed it for me. His lectures seemed really long and monotonous. This was by far one of the most boring classes I've ever had.

The class seemed interesting at first, but I regret taking this class with all my heart. It's just long and boring and soul sucking. He's also just very smug and what he wants from his students is not entirely clear. He gives lectures but marks you down if you use ideas from lecture. The tests are quite difficult too.

Complaints: 1.Seems to enjoy humilating students when returning tests and answering clarifying questions 2. Stood in class and rushed students to complete professor evaluations which is against the rules 3. Does not test on overall understanding of course materials (even though this is an introductory course?!?). Read text footnotes for his tests!

he looks really mean, but if you just ask for help he is willing to help you, just dont be sensitive. His grades are only based on a midterm and final, both of which are essays but if you participate in class and go to oh, he says he gives a few extra points. You have to read alot in that class, but most of the material is interesting

Ehrlich is fairly challenging, but reasonable and clear. His exams are difficult if you don't read so take a different class if you're looking for an easy A. You'll get an A if you do the reading, though.

Go to his office hours!!! That will save you in every way. Also, do all of the reading and take copious notes! Tests are open-note but very hard because of that. He's smug, but if you can get past that, he's a pretty nice guy.

Comment:
Professor Ehrlich is an unfair and unclear grader. His ISF 100A class is a mandatory class for the major that is taught at a graduate school level. His expectations are unclear and the amount of reading assigned is impossible but necessary for success in the class.

Comment:
I first took Ehrlich for ISF 62 (which I recommend!). 100A is way harder than 62, probably because the material, FOR ME, isn't as interesting. True, Ehrlich has the tendency to be monotone and I almost fall asleep every other lecture, BUT his lectures are EXTREMELY helpful and organized, and he always offers help to anyone who needs it.

Although his lectures are long and wordy I thought he was a good professor overall. I found him to be extremely friendly and I don't know why there were any negative comments left about him being scary or mean. Also very interested in what students have to say, which is more than I can say for most professors.

Ehrlich is so cold and unfriendly, it's scary. He is monotone and never interesting. While the subject is really interesting, he seems to suck it dry. THERE ARE MUCH BETTER ISF PROFESSORS - wait to take this course with them (Wren, Cipolat...). Even though the tests are open book, they were still tough.

These comments had me scared to take his class but I don't think he's that bad at all! I think his lectures are interesting, well organized, clear and insightful. He may not be the perkiest person but that's not because he is mean or pessimistic! he is very respectful of comments in class and engages the class in discussion when possible.

One of the most disinteresting, dry, unclear, and unhelpful professors I have ever had. I was so interested in the material before hand and got progressively more and more miserable by the minute. I never thought an interesting topic could have been made so boring but Ehrlich can do it! Stay as far away as possible.

This man was the most obstructive person I encountered at Cal. He vetoed courses relevant to my area of concentration, and dictated the courses that I should take, despite his demonstrated ignorance about my area of concentration. Wren is a better advisor.

He is awful. He is the most boring, angry, arrogant man I have ever met. Never have I found a class to be so depressing or such a waste of time. The material could have been interesting had he not been so damn pessimistic about our society. Steer clear unless you want a semester of hell
