Comment:

Although many have said he is a tough grader and mean, i beg to differ. Hosmer is so helpful, step into his conferences or offices hours and he really gets to know you and you get to know him. He connects with you at a personal level and this helps him better help you with your writing since he knows where you're coming from. Brilliant man!!

This man is the coolest. The first class he is super scary but stick around! Once he starts his class for real youll find that he's the smartest, kindest, sassiest, and COOLEST professor at Smith. Take his class, you wont regret it!

Robert Hosmer is amazing. At first, he will seem intimidating, but stay in his class! It's worth it to learn that he's secretly a softie who comes in tired after binge-watching Downton Abbey all night.:) Prof. Hosmer lectures passionately and values thoughtfulness and improvement in his class; theatrical yet goodhearted and intelligent. I love him!

Hosmer is really enthusiastic, a combination of loud and quiet, and definitely interesting. He also uses a lot of paper, and will explain that his family is in the business and he knows that he's not killing trees. As for teaching english, he's extremely good, and I've even begun to like and maybe even comprehend poetry.

i was skeptical about this class as was unsure about how much i would love taking english fiction but this man is a genius. The readings, classes are interesting and not hard work at all. The essays are time-consuming if your writing isn't great, but he changes them to make it 100 times better. take any class with him! it'll change your life.

You will have to work hard for this professor, but you will actually want to. He demands a solid effort, but he is amazingly brilliant and will add a great deal to any discussion of classical mythology. Class discussion is expected, so come prepared!

Hosmer is a glorious human being and one of the most interesting teachers I've ever had. He cares so much about what he's teaching that you can't help but care about it too. I never would have expected to love The Iliad, but Hosmer made it happen. His assignments are hard, and he is by no means an easy grader, but he is very approachable.

The best teacher I've had at Smith so far. He may come off as frightening, stern, or intimidating, but he's actually very approachable. Funny, down to earth, and kind. He also absolutely oozes brilliance.

Hosmer fan club unite! I love him to death. I want him to be my uncle or something. He seems like a somewhat bitter sarcastic british man, but get him talking about his nieces and dogs and he turns into a real sweetie. I'm also convinced he has read everything one should read. His classes are awesome--not too too demanding but challenging and fun with excellent readings. one of my fav smith professors, no doubt.

Not an easy class, but his lectures are brilliant! He is a tough grader and sometimes innaproachable, but he overall is a fantastic english professor. Awesome awesome awesome novels and short stories to work from, but looses clarity in his assignments (very hard!!!)

I love him, he's so sweet, even when he's bitter and sarcastic... he listens to you in class and always wants to help you. He takes an interest in students outside of class, if you make the effort to visit him. Also, he loves dogs and british things. And Muriel Spark. Precious.
