If you really wanna walk out with a good GPA and you don't have any prior knowledge with Java, don't do it. Tests don't count for that much, until they do. Projects aren't hard, until they are. In class questions are discussed before hand, until they aren't. It's a mess for people who haven't already picked it up. I'd suggest picking another major.

Hoggard's methodology to teach students being exposed to programming for the first time is extremely poor. It makes little to no sense to focus so much on formatting as opposed to the basics. My advice to him would be to worry about if your students know how/ when to use a for loop instead if they put enough commas in the output or missed a space.

He is the absolute worst and rudest professor I have ever encountered at college so far. His tests are obnoxiously hard and he does not seem to curve them. Participation questions on TopHat he asks are super tricky and hard to get right for a beginner programmer. To top it all off he is extremely arrogant and full of himself.

All of the assignments are extremely difficult to understand and the lectures barely correlate to what the assignments and projects are on and they more than half your grade! if you mess up one small piece you get a 0 for almost every assignment. All and all terrible class for a 1000 course. Miss one class and there are points taken off your grade

Good guy. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Guy gets a bad rap because he teaches introductory programming, which not everyone gets the first time around.

Tests can be fairly difficult, especially if all you do is study the online notes. Pop quizzes are given randomly, so be sure you make it to class each day. He does give obscure questions, but he at least gives minimal credit if you answer a question. Do not let your phone go off during a test, as you will deservedly have your test ripped.

Likes to use what could be considered trick questions on tests and pop quizes (which is how he takes attendance). Takes points off on assignments for silly things such as not placing comments in the right place. Otherwise it's a fairly easy class considering that tests are open note and open book, just make sure you aren't using your phone

Computer Networks is the second class I've taken with Hoggard and I love this man's class! Expect a pop quiz every week, but if you pay attention at all, they should be easy. Best way to learn is by going to class and following his notes online, but his class is so big that he doesn't take attendance. Amazing professor!

Lectures were all pointless. The best way to learn the material is on your own. He is also a very picky professor. Make sure you always come to class though because he gets hurt if you don't.

Had him in the intro CSCI class three or four semesters ago. Didn't pay attention. Didn't spend more than 20 minutes in his lab section. Only reason for my A- instead of my A is cause I overslept his class. If he is the worst professor you have ever had, then switch your major. It doesn't get any easier, and some professors care a whole lot less.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. TOOK HIM MORE THAN A MONTH TO GRADE THE FIRST EXAM. WHICH WASNT POSTED TIL AFTER THE DROP DATE. WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE HAD SO FAR BY A LONG SHOT.

I would rather hit my head against a wall than sit through this class. He holds us after class almost every day and attendance is mandatory, even though the material is self explanatory. Do not take this class with him.

I LOVED this man's class. Only one pop quiz was given in the semester, his exam questions are extremely fair especially if you paid attention at all in class. And they are open not and open book. His lab assignments towards the end, not so easy. You should easily pass this class with above a C. Extremely helpful if you need help in the class.

Literally no grades for this class, gives pop quizzes because he get's butthurt that students would rather look at their phones for 5 seconds, and has the most unclear exam questions possible. He purposely writes his questions without indenting it, and also fails to ask a proper question his exams. I spent most of my time deciphering the question

Skip class, instant failure. Pay attention, don't play games. This is computer science, not business 101. If you want to text or play Minecraft do it later on. One hour three days a week. BEST CSCI INSTRUCTOR AT ECU! You will appreciate him in later courses.

Tough Class, but Hoggard makes sure to cover all of the necessary material. He makes sure you receive a grade relative to the knowledge which you acquired in the class.
